Nuisence/low flying over Rietvlei dam

Postby Leprachaun » Thu Sep 16, 2010 4:47 pm

Hi Folks , sometimes I just dont understand why we have these fellows who have no regard for the folks on the ground .
Yesterday a trike was spotted flying low over the lion Park at Rietvlei dam in full view of the park Ranger .
A while later the same trike was seen doing turns over property north of the Route 21 business park as well as the Irene Mall .
Both Waterkloof and RAASA have been informed of this .
I dont understand why some folks dont think before they do this as we have a good chance of being banned from flying to Swartkops next month .
The folks at Waterkloof called the trike on the radio and an instructor responded that they were busy with a photo session .
The Park ranger at Rietvlei who is a pilot as well called Waterkloof as the trike did not respond .
The matter will be followed up by the relevant authorities

Yes.....give us the name of that fool. We must stop protecting the people that give microlighters a bad name.

No need to name and shame. If the guy wants to own up great. Otherwise, his invite to a teaparty at CAA will be enough

I challenge you to start a discussion on the different types of flying machines and thier abilities when you are at 100ft AGL and Koos is occupied trying to figure out the ballistics involved in hitting a moving flying target with a .222

Im new to microlighting so im not sure about where and where not to fly besides the marked yellow area's.

Whats the lowest one is allowed to fly past/over somewhere you are not sure, ie gamefarms etc.

Im not referring to built up areas, thats just your own stupidity.
Most trike problems are caused by the nut that connects the seat to the handlebars!

It used to be 1500ft AGL but I think it has been increased to 2000ft. However a lot a sensitive parks have their own published restrictions, like St Lucia etc. If you are going flying in a new area then check the AIC's and AIP's. As a pilot you should be getting the CD from CAA on a monthly basis

Example AIC 20.18, St Lucia, minimum alt 4100ft
AIC 20.15 Breeding of disease free Buffalo in Ihlanze Ranch, Pietermaritzberg, avoid overflying the ranch and else where 1500ft agl

seems excessive, even at 1000ft, one cant see that much.
