Yes it will work, you might get a slight loss of signal strength, but that would only be noticeable under marginal conditions. One thing to remember is that you are creating a single point of failure for both GPS's...

The loss of signal strength would be caused by splitting the signal (thus effectively giving each receiver 50% of the signal, a 3db drop in signal) and the additional cable and splitter in the link that will cause a slight loss.

The GPS's are nice to have and to stay out of controlled spaces when flying around JHB mostly. I use the 296 and it is u p to date while the KLX 135 is old, small and not u to date, but it is also my radio so I keep it as backup. When I am bored I spends hrs watching the lag of the KLX vs the Garmin. Sometimes in as much as 5kts... , but removing it and redoing the panels is not yet a necessity and it all works so I just want to tidy it up a bit... I have a KLX135 and a 296 and I am gatvol of the tangeled 296 cable and the sucker mount that keeps falling off. I don;t want to make more holes in the skin for another antenna, so I happy with 50% drop. The cable is <2m long and I tested in the hangar and it seems to work ok?

Sounds like a good plan!

Unless the signals on all sats are VERY weak you won't even notice the 50% drop, I am often amazed how well GPS's work even with their small antennas mostly obscured. If it works in the hangar it will work well in the air
