Caltex TT Super Two Stroke

Postby zucac » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:18 pm

About 2 months my son went to start my 582 Rotax,it backfied then no compresion. It only had 82 hr since a decoke.
I sent the motor back to the same AP.What he found was the rings were stuck in the piston.his thoughts was the oil.
I took this up with Caltex = Chevron .they drained my tank, took my empty oil bottels and lots of phone calls.

I now have my second 582 go the same way.at my club 2 have had the same and 2 at another field close by.

All of us were using Caltex 2 Stroke.

Please you guys out there stop using this oil

I have copyed Rotax on this and they have given me other oil to use.

anybody reading this, you are wellcome to use any oil you want.

Bret is sharing some pretty valuable information here.

I have been exposed to over 15 000 hours of Caltex Super 2 stroke oil, and it was perfect. But that was until the last couple of months. I have personally been involved in this case. One motor, 86 hours, the other motor 98 hours since major strip down de-koke. And I have confirmed the motor up in Cato was also using Caltex.

Needles to say, after being a staunch supporter of the product, both the fuel and the oil, the thousands and thousands of hours, I will not touch the stuff now.

I have seen and touched with my own eyes and hands the 'sludge and sticky glue like residue' that is the Caltex oil and fuel combination over the past 6 months. Caltex........

Cheers

Once a Husquavarna HP 2 stroke fan, always a Husquavarna HP 2 stroke fan. Mineral. Finish and klaar.
And if Huskey is not available then it is Total 2 stroke.

Gosh, and here goes an age old debate.

Back to topic:

David and Bret, it sure sounds like TT has caused some serious damage ?!
Curious to hear your opinions. New additives ?

I note Castrol (Chevron) conveniently throws the aviation ball in their reply. Hell Castrol, F@CK aviation, it is a 2 stroke engine ! I wonder how many weed-eaters, lawn-mowers, scooters and whatever has gone to hell because of this ?

Ok, now I'm getting more confused as each post flies by.....

Is some-one out there saying that a Flight Manual actually prescribes Chainsaw Oil and Outboard Oil for a Rotax engine?

If so, please tell me what flight manual/owners manual/Operators Handbook.

And will you guys please stop shouting and being angry with me. And donnering me on the head! I've got griep, like the whole of Witwillems family, and my kop is donners sore.

Thanks.
