Farewell Henk...

Postby Oddball » Wed May 26, 2010 11:18 am

My good friend Henk Wolmerans was killed last night when he was struck by a truck whilst trying to fix his bakkie on the side of the road near Welkom. I hardly know what to say or feel.
Henk was one of the warmest and most generous people I have ever had the honour of meeting. His enthusiasm for flying is legendry and his accomplishments in his beloved 'First Love' Mainair Gemini and then his GT450 'Stray Dog' earned him the admiration and respect of many pilots. He would often come to my workshop for a chat and coffee and to bounce the next idea of how to make his aircraft better or more interesting, or to give it better range, or just something to make it more user friendly.
He helped me out with my business and was always ready to listen to my gripes in exchange for some eartime of his own. I will miss him tremendously; he was very well liked by all and it is a huge loss for the aviation community.
You will be well remembered and sorely missed my friend.

If anyone has any photos of Henk please send them to me at jay@horriblehyde.com

A very very sad day - I had the privelage of spending some time with Henk on various flyaways around the country. He was a fabulous pilot, a humble and modest man a humerous and helpful person and as Jay says a good friend to all. - Henk my mate, You will be sorely missed. - My condolences to family and friends -

:( This just seems so unreal. Henk "Stray Dog" will certainly be missed by all of us. May Elma find comfort during this hard time. I am devastated for her and the family.

Henk I never had the pleasure of meeting you but judging by the comments above you generated a tremendous amount of respect from your friends and fellow pilots.

RIP and my thoughts and condolences to family and friends,

Andy

I was shocked to learn of this earlier this morning. The last time I saw Henk was when he came to visit me in hospital after my trike accident.

I have no words! Henk was certainly one of the best men I will ever have the privilege of knowing!

Gonna miss those short radio calls "E L S" when Henk suddenly pulls in alongside you on a long cross country trip without knowing he was coming!

We will fly the big blue and the green valleys with you again some day brother!
