To Activate or Not To Activate?

I am now confused

I have filed flight plans for a flip on Monday. Did all the FAC applications. Filed the flight plans online at File2Fly and all has been approved.

On the plans, Search And Rescue was Nil. In other words, no search and rescue. My closest aerodrome is Lanseria. I am flying from unmanned to unmanned airfields. I was told to activate my flight plan just before the flight either radio Lanseria or call them before take-off.

Not to sound like a complete idiot  "Lanseria, I can like to go fly, please start my plan (**) " when I do fly, I phoned Lanseria ATC to find out what the correct procedure is. I was told, the normal apply :? Apparently I can just fly and there is no need to call them before or after as there is no SAR specified.

I definitly do not want a SAAF plane up my arse or a SAPS guy waiting on the ground because I screwed up. So, do I have to call/radio/telegraph/sign language before I go and if so what is the correct terminology? "Start my plan" (**) "Stop my plan, smaak my ek is op die grond" (**)

Any info is much appreciated. I am sure somebody has done this before vhpy

"Lanseria, I scheme I am taking off, gooi my plan active"
"Lanseria, Schweet, I am safe of the ground, stop die lorrie en switch af my plan" Roger, over and out. I am talking to you Roger puff

FALA, thus is ZU-Bored Shitless, airborne Ingwe at just now for nowhere'sville now now, currently 3 miles east LIV. please activate my FP ref no. ABC123. ZU-Bored Shitless...

Ditto on way back.

not necessary IMHO, but just in case you want it activated....

basically all you need is the FP ref and the FAC ref no. to prove that you went through the whole process... If you don;t activate your FP it just falls off the system like 100's do a day...

Paperwork BS is all it is, but if you don;t have the ref numbers they can make your life difficult.... Especially if they don't like aeries?pilots (jealousy is dangerous when you have a little power).

PS
When the cop asks for a flip say you would love to but need 48hrs for approval       (Been there done that (^^) (^^) (^^) ) Then suddenly all the paperwork is BS....

I am off to activate my 2 Fp's for this afternoon WHOHOOOO>>> Hope WX holds...

You need to activate you flightplan, otherwise they don't know who is flying where. They say that they will intercept any illegal flying bogeys, UFO's etc.

Again, you need to activate your flightplan.

So RV

If I understand correctly for me from Ingwe, I do the following

Change to Freq 124.00

Lanseria, ZU-FLO now airborne Ingwe airfield please activate flightplan abc123 (number on file2fly), ZU-FLO"

Once on the ground at Aeroden
"Lanseria, ZU-FLO Please close flightplan abc123"?

It does sound like alot of BS (no, not bored shitless)

Piet,

What will probably happen is the following:

You will take of from Ingwe airfield, and contact lanseria.

We normally say, Lanseria, ZU-FLO airborne from ingwe 1 mile north 5000ft enroute "where ever" as per flight plan.

They will come back and either ask you to report at a certain place, or to go tiba.

No need to tell them to close the flightplan if you didnt file SAR. ATC will assume that you fly the flightplan, and will expect you to land at ETA.

Good luck.

Yip that basically it. No need to close a FP. U only need to cancel SAR, but if it is NIL then you don't...

Flew in that KAK WX today. Did not stay anywhere near my intended track due to WX     . No issues and was greeted by 3 armed SAP's (friendly). All they wanted was name, reg and FAC...

No big deal. I doubt you need to activate FP, just need the FAC and FP ref... But that just my 2c... ATC were batteling with increased traffic. First time in 20 years I heard ATC say "ALL STATIONS Please STAND BY.... (**) (**) (**) (**) "......

Plenty traffic on area, but only me and a guy from Zim in Special Rules..... WX was Beeg, but flying was gr8.... puff
