Just received a long fax from ATC detailing the restrictions for the world cup and what it all entails. WOW
I am glad I live in East London and that we have this wonderful scenic environment to fly in with absolutely no restrictions. Do come and join us here and experience the friendliest and most enjoyable flying.

This is not an advertisment but I really sympathise with you poor buggers who are going to be struggling to fly while we have a wonderful time along this coast with visits to Trenneries, Haga Haga, Mazeppa, Kei Mouthand even Port Alfred for our regular brekkies.

Here at Wings park we have a 1000 ft of beautiful grassed runway and the Braaivleis fires are lit every weekend

Do you have AIC/Notam document numbers for us?

I know I am leading with the jaw here and am probably going to get it from some of the smart ou's but here goes...

I flew around the Peninsula with Apicella on Saturday morning, blissfully unaware of the Hurricanes/Grippons/Hawks/Lynx/Dak formations about to thunder through there 40 minutes after we landed at Morningstar. There was nobody at FAYP to give us a heads-up either.

Yes, I had been out of the country for the week before so possibly missed comms about it but shouldn't there be an easily accessible single place to go check whats going on in a certain area at a given time while doing flight planning? If there is one and I missed it, please enlighten me?

I have registered at ATNS' file2fly for the AIC's/Notams but sheez, its so much to wade through that has absolutely no bearing on my type of flying, I know I will miss something important soon and make a gat of myself. Worse still maybe make a gat in a Hurricane!

Having said that and on a lighter note, I flew head to head in a Magni M16 with a Lynx formation today near the Stadium at Greenpoint and we easily maintained our own seperation. The military guys were really friendly - specially, as we passed each other, I said I wanted to be a Lynx one day when I am big... they replied that I was big, just my woer-woer was small and that I was probably on my way to Sandy Bay and asked whether we had good zoom lenzes and would we please post the pics on the internet

Man its a blessing to fly in the Fairest Cape!... will post some vid on it soon.

It would appear this will be a simulated exercise for the real thing but the restrictions apply

I feel that they should have called "Regulated flying" because that is what it is. It is not such a hassle as we tend to make it. Just get your numbers, be legal and fly. The more you know, the better it gets.

Ja what can i say about East London

Guys, I complied with the requirements last time round and have my codes and numbers etc.
Its no big deal, the lady that takes the flight plan on the phone is most friendly and giggles a bit about it even.
Departure FAFK, Destination FAFK - remaining in the circuit for training. Bingo, authorisation code.
Cop that arrived to check knew I had to have an authorisation code but I doubt that he believed that a woer-woer could even fly.
(Or which side was the front)

Get the paperwork in order and its no sweat.

Bwhahahaha.. kidding guys, I like East London a lot. In fact.... The young lady at DHL many years ago when I worked in Mdantsane made a lasting impression on me and I will always have very fond memories of the place! Trust me. That place can rock.

3.1 The Temporary Restricted Airspace is a 50NM Radius centered on VOR CTV (S335810.32 E0183618.09)
extending from GND/SFC to unlimited. The temporary restricted airspace excludes all controlled airspace
and includes FAR36, FAR39, FAR42, FAR43, FAR45, FAR144, FAR149, FAD143 and FAD153.

I presume this means that it includes ONLY the bits of the FAR45 and FAR45 which lies within the 50nm from the VOR?

Meaning the guys at Saldanha, and me at Aurora will be able to fly (with the usual comms with Langebaan)?
