Normal rates

30 minute flip – R1000
This flight takes place in the vicinity of the airfield and offers views of the Klipheuwel/Perdeberg area including animals such as zebras, antelopes, jackals, ostriches, blue cranes, pelicans, flamingo's and various birds of prey.

60 minute flip – R1500
This flight takes place from the airfield towards and along the west coast, with breathtaking views of Table Mountain, Table Bay, Robben Island, the Atlantic Seaboard, Cape Hangklip and the long white sand beaches of the west coast. During whale season whales and dolphins may also be seen.
Fly and Braai

Minimum of 6 people 20 minute flights - R450 each
We will supply the braai area, eating utensils and wood and coals. Please supply your own food and drinks.

Looking at the names it looks like a school and flights done by instructor. in past this been acceptable as famil flight.

Prices are market dictated. If too high no demand. with world cup coming and soooo much to see in Slaapstad I think they be doing some real business...

Compare prices to the trike flips at Vic falls and IIRC they are not exhorbitant.... Not aimed at the trike owner IMHO....

Im only talking about a microlight.

A fellow aviator told me im gona open a can of worms - but thats how I feel.

I also fly a trike and my expenduture is roughly R250 - 350/hour - fuel /oil /----

To get people intrested in flying why charge that amount high amounts (average instruction rates per hour is'nt even in that region)

Microlighting is suppose to be the cheapest way to start your flying.

Ja guys - but at the Bic Falls flips are legal - closer to home only schools are to give intro flights with the intention to give training to MPL/NPL (WS). .

And then we advertice scenic flips (not intro flights)

Kinda agree with RV4ker -Supply and demand will dictate, if people are prepared to pay that much for the experience then cool

As for the running cost of R250 - R350 and hour Now you have opened a can of worms yes as ol Big D has a love of spreadsheets and cost accounting and I have calculated this from many angles for trikes

All things considered such as engine overall, wing dacron replacement, insurance, cost of capital, 3rd party, AP,a dditional life insurance etc, etc you will probably find it costs alot more, depending on the number of hours flown per year

BEtter yet -DON'T calculate it - AND BE HAPPY!! - In fact....I am just joking R250 it is!!!! - And if my wife is reading this, mine is actually R150 because the 912 is lighter on juice, and I glide alot

I don't know any of the parties concerned and have no interest either way. The comment was simply that of supply and demand. Also if you factor in the cost of ownership as opposed to just trike then it far more than R250. You also need to make some cash else why do it in first place. We did similar exersize a while back on costing a 3 axis aerie and R800 was break even (insurance is huge as is kitty for MPI, Engine and prop. Instructor/pilot also needs some cash) When you add it all up, there not much change from R1000....

its sad that Microlighting has become so pathetically expensive and way over regulated. alot of the costs in doing a "flipping op " is the regulations. Crazy IMO.... I am with RV4ker on this... supply and demand and if someone will pay it great and if you don't like it open an opperation near by for some competition.

The guy is trying to make a living. If people are prepared to pay that amount then so be it. If others choose to massively discount it they will get the business. Free market.

However as mentioned he would have be licensed under part 96 as a commercial operator for this and as I understand that is not ready and CAA are hoping to have it resolved by the time of the world cup. An instructor's rating is insufficient.
