"Meer as R1 miljoen se skade en koste is meegebring deur ’n onbeholpe Suid-Afrikaanse lugvaartinspekteur wat oudpres. Thabo Mbeki se vliegtuig in Soedan, Khartoem, sonder toestemming betree en die deur gebreek het.
Die drama het Maandagaand op die lughawe van Khartoem afgespeel waar ’n huurvlug van die Suid-Afrikaanse Lugmag Mbeki besorg het. Mbeki is deur die Afrika-Unie (AU) afgevaardig om te help met die vredesproses tussen strydende partye in Noord- en Suid-Soedan.
’n Lugwaardigheidsinspekteur van die Suid-Afrikaanse Burgerlugvaartowerheid (BLO) wou die bemanning se dokumente inspekteer, maar kon hulle nêrens opspoor nie.
Volgens die BLO was die inspekteur op versoek van die Soedanse owerheid in die land weens kommer dat verskeie Suid-Afrikaans geregistreerde vliegtuie klaarblyklik nie lugwaardig is nie.
Hy het vervolgens sonder toestemming in die vliegtuig, wat in die militêre spergebied op die lughawe geparkeer was, geklim en ná ’n rukkie uitgeklim, onbewus daarvan dat die vliegtuig deur die lugmag gehuur is. Die BLO mag normaalweg nié militêre huurvliegtuie inspekteer nie.
Die betrokke Gulfstream II-straler se deur moet op ’n spesiale manier toegemaak word. Toe die inspekteur daarmee gesukkel het, het hy dit toegedwing. Die deurmeganisme het in die proses gebreek.
Die BLO het gerugte ontken dat die inspekteur in hegtenis geneem is. Hy het ’n volledige verslag oor die voorval aan die Soedanse owerheid verskaf.
Die BLO moes noodgedwonge inderhaas nog ’n Gulfstream met ’n tegnikus, onderdele en gereedskap aan boord stuur om die stukkende deur te gaan regmaak.
Die uitkoms was ten minste voorspoedig. Die tegnikus kon die deur oornag regmaak en Mbeki kon gisteroggend soos beplan vertrek om verder aan die vredesproses deel te neem.
Volgens die BLO is die saak na sy regsafdeling verwys om te bepaal wie vir die meer as R1 mijoen se kostes weens die voorval aanspreeklik gehou sal word."

Someone told him it was full of trikes.......
you cannot just enter an aircraft if there is not a resonsible person around.
If it happened to me, I would refuse to board the aircraft in case they had planted drugs, put a bomb on board or any other thing I cud think up.
