Microlighters

This was now the third year in a row that we guys from Lydenburg arranged a fly day for those children in the community that would appreciate the opportunity the most.

As in the past, the Softnesses prepared food and snacks while the pilots did the flippings.

The fact that this occasion happened on Mandela Day was purely coincidental, but it served the right purpose.

We are planning to make this a standing Mandela Day event in future, and can only encourage other flying communities to do the same.
The reward is awesome!

Included are photos of the planes, as well as the pilots with the children.

it was indeed very, very cold up there. Especially on the trike.
But as one of kids remarked, 'once up there you don't seem to feel the cold, the experience is everything'.

Because we need to start arranging this sort of thing long before the time, to get the indemnities and logistics in place, it is better to do it in winter time. That way we know that bad weather and rain cannot prevent the day from happening at the last minute.

Waarom bring jy nie al die ander saam Hippo Pools toe nie. Wat van 'n fly-in by julle dan speel ons follow trhe leader en julle gaan wys ons al die mooi plekke in julle omgewing

Dit klink na 'n baie lekker idee.
Ons het dit eemaal probeer, maar dit was in Augustusmaand. Die wind het ons almal op die grond gehou vir die hele naweek.
Dit was nie vir die ouens aangenaam om van Gauteng af tot hier te vlieg en dan niks te doen nie.

As ons reg beplan, Maart , April of Juliemaand volgende jaar, dan kan ons dit regtig probeer.

Omtrent al ons ouens was gereël om Hippo Pools toe te gaan, maar daar het 'n paar dinge voorgeval, en dit was uiteindelik 3 van die agt wat daar uitgekom het.

Nadat ons hulle vertel hoe fantasties dit was by Hippo Pools, het hulle ingestem om volgende jaar meer doelgerig te beplan.

Ek het nog nooit Numbi toe gevlieg nie. Ek kan jou nie raad gee oor 'n vlug soontoe nie.
Die berge is baie intimiderend. Min of geen noodlandings geleenthede.

Nice to see Henry's Sycamore in the mix too; I notice the doors were off, seems he enjoys the cold then? (or perhaps he still prefers to fly with both feet on the floor rather than on the pedals)

Yes, Henry flew in and assisted with the flipping, we all really enjoyed the morning, was heartwarming to see the joy on those young faces.
Negative on the doors on the sycamore, he left the door in the up (open) position for the photo shhot, he was the only one flying in a closed cockpit that cold morning, but we forgive him after all, his strip is at 7000 ft, and its is cold up there. will pass on your regards,
