Quicksilver MX 2

Hi all, just trying to find out about the Quicksilver MX 2. I was/am looking at buying one, but have heard some good and some quite scary things about them. This particular one has the 5 belt reduction drive and steerable nose wheel, and has a rotax 503. Has just under 200 hours on airframe and engine. Any advice? Should I just hang on for a bit and buy a trike?

You can get a second hand Solowings Windlass (Rotax 503) with a modarate amount of hours for about R30K to R50K.
They are really good trikes (Just ask Wargames or Tracer!! ) and very robust and easy to maintain.

What would worry me is the low hours

blueskies, have replied to your pm.
The low hours would'nt worry me, they all have low airframe hours, mine has just under 300. They are extremely strong little planes.
In all honesty a trike would be a better buy. I fly an MXII because of my circumstances (I'm a paraplegic) and we have a ball flying it, but you can get a good trike with dual ignition and perhaps even an electric start for slightly more. The trike will be faster and have more endurance with a more modern motor.

Nothing wrong with MX, MAC-CD or Shadow for cabbage patch flying.

But the darn things just take up so much hangar space. More than a Cessna or a trike !

Hi, thanks for all the advice! I have decided to hang on a bit and get a trike. Turns out the Quicksilver was quite a lot worse for wear anyway. Surprising for such low hours! Oh well, so if anyone knows of a decent trike for around the R30k mark I'll be interested. I'm also selling my Porsche Spyder replica, if anyone is interested. Ultimately I'd like to swap for a trike, and pay in the diff. I have it advertised in the aircraft wanted section with a pic. Was thinking along the lines of a Windlass 503 with an Aquilla 1 wing and reasonable hours.

Hi,

Don't let anyone talk you out of the MXII. I have many, many hours on the type and 2nd hand they are mostly the best flying that can be had for the money paid. They are extremely strong, safe and reliable. If I had one, I would most certainly not swop it for any trike.
