FLYING PAX FOR MONEY

Postby Blue Max » Tue May 26, 2009 6:35 pm

Guest,s at my farm ( a venue for quads AND MICROLIGHT,S ) sometimes ask me for a flip in my microlight. vhpy
For instance over the Easter weekend I took 8 persons for a flip. Obviously it is costing me money and it offers a opportunity to make a couple of bucks. Can I charge them say 20 litt of fuel for say 20 min.?? or should I take money instead of fuel...??? Plse help.. :?

Money can only change hands if you're instructor rated and you're booking for an introductionary flight. Have big indemnity notice visible or a form signed.

The closest you can scam eachother is accept donations for your kid's rugby tour and that'll probably also get yourself in k@k if there's k@k.

Otherwise trade in beers. (^^)

You can apply for a part 96 authorisation which allows you to advertise and charge for flips in NTCA so long as you take off and land at the same airfield. Also the flip must be less than an hour.

Call CAA and ask for the correct procedure to follow. A bit of effort but worth it.

Berlin - Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.
The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per litre in the drink.
Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.
Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said on Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday.
Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the US and Europe".
It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavouring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

GL ?? Miller??? doubt that, Gaylords opening bid is a bottle of spice, and i dont mean braai spice, I mean the one with the picture of the pirate on the front... In case memories are lagging --- recipe

One x LONG Glass
4-6 x Ice cubes
2 X fingers of the sweet spicy stuff (vary according to time of the evening)
Top up with red bull (normally not a lot of room so red bull lasts longer)
Swizzle with the cleanest finger on right hand. (after fiddling on aircraft all are relatively dirty)
Consume vigorously..

Repeat.... (ie tell thatch to make us another one)

Oh - and so as to not completely hijack the thread...

Yeaahhh - NO, unless your instructor rated your not allowed to charge anyone a fee of any sort or accept any kind of remuneration for taking pax for flips.

And for those who know,am I correct in saying that you need to have a registered flying school at the airfield you are using before you can do a intro flight ,i.o.w. ,training ?

Flying-i has it right. Apply for a part96 operation. That means a commercial op so you can charge money without all the other complications of running a training operation.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Yes the Part 96 allows the use of a microlight aircraft for Commercial gain. There are drawbacks

1. the Pilot must be an Instructor, or have the new Microlight Commercial Pilot rating, which is an equivalent
2. The aircraft has to be maintained at an AMO, to much stricter standards as a private aircraft

etc etc etc

You as a pilot can take any willing pax for a free flight as long as you are legal and your plane is. But this will be in your personal capacity and not protected by company insurances etc. You would have to ensure you have adequate personal liability protection etc.

This will work if your main aim is to bullsh%t the CAA.

However, when you have the enjin out, make a good landing and roll over, and your passenger now has a broken leg, the CAA, lawyers etc. will expose the R500 T shirt for what it is.

I remember reading something about not allowed to receive payment "in money or in kind". ##

If you have a guest farm and the amount of flips after paying for the AMO, insurance, liability, etc is still profitable why not?
