Some serious models

Postby Low Level » Fri Mar 13, 2009 12:19 pm

O.K. some of you will definately be dissappointed cause it is planes, but as this is an aviation forum, here goes.

This must be serious fun to be in control of these planes.

And I bet you those landings are way smoother than I experienced in the last 2 years flying as in a full size boeing... Out of the 12 odd flights in the last two years only one landing was smooth (still not as smooth as landing with a trike)... To my amazement the entire cabin clapped hands as they also proberly haven't felt such a good landing in a whilst.

Why is it?

I would love to know accurately what one of those cost? My guestimate was between R500k and a bar.

The 18 foot wing span Airbus A380 RC Airplane was scratch built by Peter Michel. There are four jet turbine engines powering it. It has been reported that Michel paid 3,500 Euros each for the custom manufactured engines. The rc Airbus A380 is said to reach speeds up to 75 mph. All up weight is about 155 lbs and cost was in the region of 30,000 Euros.

Hands up - who wants to test fly that thing ??
