Hi Guys
I was just wandering what has happened to the two seater Shadow fixed wing microlights,do people still fly them, are they still around? I have not seen one in a few years. It seems that the trike is the way to go these days, was there a serious disadvantage to the fixed wing microlights?

If you are talking about the British Shadow then there are quite a few of them around ! 3 at Rhino park including 2 in my hangar ! Or maybe you are referring to the older "Quicksilver" look-alike Shadows ? I have not seen one of them around for a long time. Flew one in the mid 80's. A friend of mine still flies his Quicksilver almost every weekend.
PLENTY fixed wing microlights around, if you look at sales they are outselling the trikes by a huge margin right now, not sure why though.....
Here is my Streak Shadow (Jabiru powered), the Streak is the shorter wing (faster) variant of the Shadow, over the years it held many records, including the altitude record in its class, over 28000 feet on a 582 Rotax !

If it is the latter that Rudix refers to, I sold one last August to a guy at Krugersdorp. My Quicksilver "look alike" sold for R 12 000, complete with a 76 hour Rattex 503 single ignition, belt driven IVO prop. It was actually a copy of the Mac CD, but with a shorter tail-boom.
Cons of the Shadow:
Takes up a moer-of-a-lot of hangarage space, at least that of 2 trikes, does not like wind, slow.
Pros of the Shadow:
Ideal game farm or cabbage patch flyer.
Fellow club members called it Airforce One, then Spareforce One and in the end she was known as Scareforce One !
