Postby Frootbat » Wed May 19, 2010 2:27 pm

Hallo Hak,

We have little contact with Helga @ the moment.
According to the last report, they were still in Namibia, in between bigger towns.
Cel. reception is obviously not beeg.
The weather is making the hops back South, a bit more challenging.
She is luckily very cautious and does not rush things.

Cheers,

I think it is safe to assume that if Helga is in Koes at the moment, her next stop will be at Aroab and then 40km from there she will hop across the border back to SA at Rietfontein.

Helga, should you perhaps land at Aroab, PLEASE be carefull of the local crowd of "klonkies" they are a real nuiscance and caused several motorbike accidents when the Desert Run was still going through there.

If my memory serves me right, the triker that have done a trip through Nam a couple of years ago surname was Beukes, on a photo of him in the Microflight News at that stage you could barely see the trike on the photo at the local filling station as they crowded around the trike.

In the good old days I was flying around in Aroab area with my trike and you always have to land on a different road outside of town to avoid one of them running in front of you.

Put on your best smile at the Rietfontein border post, should you cross there, especially on the SA side, they recently rotated staff and the new brooms still sweep clean, the like to keep you entertained for as long as posiible.

Hope the rest of your trip will be a pleasant!

Helga has arived at Upington and is still to decide the exact route home from there.
I have asked her to let us know when she's closer to home so we can form a welcome home "gaggle" to meet up with her and fly with her, the last leg home. WELL DONE HELGA..Back on S.A.Soil..i mean Air.

Hi everyone,
Yes, we are back! After 48 days and not managing to get far north, we are still ecstatic. Weather certainly did not play ball. We are truly thankful to all who helped us along the way. We seemed to have arrived back just in the nick of time with regards to the wind factor. There was so much rain in Namibia, hence we being stuck in some places for six days. The roads were hectic at times too. Generally I must say that the gravel roads were at times better than the tar roads. Be aware ground crew, about the wild life along the road. Especially warthog and Oryx. They do not have any road sense.

Things to remember:
When applying for your ATF to fly Namibia, let them know which border post you are crossing. e.g. Mom used Upington and Ariamsvlei. (Ariamsvlei does have a runway, enquire from Eben Mocke for the farmers details)
Make sure your paper work is in order.
Never loose your cool - Namibians also have their time factor
Smile smile smile
Don't be in a hurry, because it does not work and it certainly will backfire on you.
Make sure you have cash on you
Ground Crew cannot carry fuel or food across border
Carry a fuel filter and stocking when re-fueling your plane, it helps
Cash important as some areas did not have garage card facilities
If no lodge near by, camping under wing not a problem

HANNO SNYMAN IN NAMIBIA WAS A TRUE HELP AND FRIEND THROUGHOUT OUR TRIP AND WITH ALL PAPER WORK BEFORE LEAVING! HIS WEATHER REPORT AND UPDATES WAS A BLESSING!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU HANNO

If anyone requires more info, please do not hesitate to contact me
