He probably had a hangover and ate too much again - Now he is the Mister Miagi of weather. No fly today Daniel-son rather wax-on, wax-off   Joking, Nkwasi is a great friend and aviator (^^) (!!)

On a serious note, glad you guys made it back safely - Always a good idea to ask the oldtimers what they think of the weather especially old Shark-boy who has spent alot of hours flying in the east

The clouds were rather thick over Witbank on Saturday morning. Glad you guys made it out of the situation OK. Sounded really scary. If you have to go through 1 000ft of cloud without instruments, I'd rather be in a trike than anything else.
I hope you're not cancelling your visit altogether, please come and visit us some time.
Perhaps a phone call to your destination before take-off would have been a good idea?

In retrospect, there are a number of issues that we overlooked and one was,as you mentioned. Weather patterns and conditions are definately a major issue and will surely be a huge part of my future flight planning.

WOW mcfly - that took balls going through that clouds. I once intentionally climbed from the bottom into clouds at 2000 ft, just to get the idea, and to scare the crap out of me forever. I panicked within 2 seconds flat, but was ready, so took off power, and within 3 or 4 seconds I was out again.

The best thing I ever did. I vowed there and then, whenever clouds catch up on me, I will fly UNDERNEATH them. As long as I can see the ground, I am happy. If I cannot go underneath, I do not go.

Good on you for not panicking. =D*

Whisked my blue card with the hole in it out yesterday morning, and compared to sky overhead. Mmmmm. Same colour. Beeeeeutdifull day, not a breath of wind and 8/8 blue sky. Lo and behold, only about 500` up all hell broke loose. Turbulence like you can not belief. I was back on the ground in a jiff, feeling like a James Bond Martini -- not stirred, SHAKEN.  Even the little blue card can lie sometimes. vhpy
