Some of us are more full of chirps & bullsh$t and less substance, so we just wait in anticipation.

I wrote an article and submitted it, with pictures, about the flowering season. I never even got to see the copy of "Ekskuus" magazine in wich it was published. We are having another fan tastic flowering season........exactly ONE year later. So far I have received ONE copy of Afskies...... STILLBORNE. So bloody sad. Trixie, do you want me to submit some more pictures??

Magazine

Postby joel » Sun Sep 02, 2007 7:11 pm

Hmmm, strange. I asked my friend Karl in Winterton to take a subscription for me and bring the mag with him if he comes to Belgium every two months. The price to ship the mag was as high as the subscription itself. Thats why we did it that way.
He paid and never got any magazines.
I complained via e-mail but we still never ever got any magazines.
So I only have the first issue which I found great but....
Anyway we dropped the case because its not worth the time but find it iritating anyway.

Last year Alan Mackenzie worked very hard to get 5 issues of the MISASA magazine out. It is way too much work for a volunteer and so we came to an arrangement with Trixie where MISASA would include a note on the year end renewal notices that would give members the choice of subscribing to African Skies. I thought it was the perfect solution ......

Well, I have done what I can to get the message across to Trixie and just yesterday spoke to her - she has told me that this issue is printed and would be at the post office by Monday. Latest. (I didn't check but assume it's this coming Monday.)

We all know that the magazine is the one really tangible item that MISASA members get and for me it is just about the most important thing that the committee can do - get the magazine out on time ... it doesn't need to be glossy and but it must go out on time.

I feel that the committee has lost a lot of credibility because of this - so we are thinking about what to do for next year. Trixie has said that she will get one mag out every month for the rest of the year. I am always prepared to allow someone to make up for stepping out of line so lets see what happens.

MISASA has your money in the bank and will only pay Trixie after each mag is delivered.

Apart from being away on and off for 6 weeks - I have even held off on the MISASA e-News pending the promised delivery of the mag 5 weeks ago. So, I will write another e-News in the next week or so to tell you all the latest news (mostly good)

Cheers

Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback.

It`s probably highly unlikely that Trixie will be able to deliver one mag per month taking in consideration the history and that she relies on content by 3rd parties which at times cannot keep to the baseline for what ever reason.

It is not a matter of jumping up and down due to the subscription monies but rather a lack of been informed on what the status is.

I believe that Trixie should be more realistic on the delivery of the outstanding mags, rather go for less and commit to the delivery dates

Off the point, any info on the Namibia Tour in October :?:

Looking forward to the eNews. Maybe MISASA should consider a online mag for next year, cheaper, populate and publish all with a click of a mouse

Thanks. Good ideas - I will talk to her.

I have been thinking about the online mag idea.

About Namibia - I only had 3 people who were interested in the trip so have informed them that I will not be going myself but will help them with planning and advice.

Cheers

From what Mike said above, the monies have not been paid across to the magazine publisher, so bottom line is the funds are safe. Prudent management on MISASA's part. :D

Yes, I agree. Good management from MISASA's part, but unfortunatley, a number of us paid African Skies directly. :(
