Sounds anal, but does Google Earth overlays take the earth's curvature into account ? :?:

I can understand that a GPS triangulates between several satellites altitude and position, but a Google Earth overlay can't. My wrong ?

Any other numbers ?
Here's yer answer from our dearest Barbara who is known for her thorough homework:

Dear Roel,

I phoned the number 012 312 2626 for information as to how to proceed.

I was told that this number is supposed to be a FAX NUMBER and that the correct number to phone is 012 312 1727.
As I had another question a bit later, I tried this number ...1727 several times to no avail (recording: “this number is not available at present”). I dialled ...2626 again, and the phone was answered.

To apply for the Flight Authorization Code/FAC – for each flight and in the whole country – submit the following information (it is much simpler than for the Soccer World Cup):

Aircraft Registration
Aircraft Type
Type of Flight
EET
Transponder equipped yes/no - TRANSPONDER ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY!
Departure Aerodrome
Destination Aerodrome

No details of the pilot requested!
No vetting!

Submit application to:
1. flightautho@telkomsa.net

or 2. By fax to 012 312 2626 – but this does not seem to work yet. So far this number seems to be a phone number, see above.

The FAC has to be inserted into the Flight Plan (FLIGHT PLAN MANDATORY) in field 18.

Kind regards
Barbara

Guys I requested authorization from the SAAF Authorisation committee, by e-mail, for our flight to Elands this weekend and there response was, and I quote:

Sorry to inform you, if the microlights are not transponder equipped, it mean no flying until 20 Dec ‘13.

No transponder....no fly...until 20 Dec 2013... ##

And, the SAAF, SAP and CIA have the most sophisticated US and other, monitoring equipment, specially installed for this period.

If you fart they will know about it  They informed me that they are very glad to see that my aircrafts regulator is now working 100% at 13.8 Volts.... Wow....and I just started her up inside the hangar to test

Mr John Boucher, what does the powers to be say? Is it the 14th or the 20th?

I cannot find any new Notams stating the 20th. There is a long weekend coming up and I want to fly!!

I am fully convinced that the authorities will reconsider the northern Gauteng restrictions by this weekend, if not earlier. The last VIP's will most likely be all gone by Sunday. Any extension past Sunday indicates that NIA knows something that we don't know.

Authority is very lenient and understanding. Kranskop Gliding Club, operating from Brits got full approval to operate this coming weekend.

I suggest those affected, and wanting to fly, just give SAAF the call or e-mail and most likely you will get approval.

I will be flying thanks to helpful flight authorisation.

Hmmm... NOTAM says one thing...the Autho Centre says another.....Notam says end's 14th....Autho Centre says 20th? (**)

Some guys get cleared without transponders...others are told that "under no circumstances will this be allowed" (**)

I contacted the SAAF Authority again. The current NOTAM is correct. On the night of the 14th the situation will be reviewed and a new NOTAM may be issued with less restrictions, possibly similar to the ones during the 2010 FIFA WC. This NOTAM will be applicable from 15 until 20 Dec 13 or the current one may just be extended. ##

Don't know how kloot and others got it right but for me, without a transponder.....no Authorisation. Maybe if you request Authorisation just to fly in circuit they may give it to you??.....no cross country ##

In my humble view..... With me being very junior in flying ,,,,,,,, when the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing this tells us all that their are to many Chiefs or "want to be Chiefs". We must all understand (we are all be people now I hope) there must be Indians as well (you know what I mean when I say that,,,,,,,lol)

So come groot koppe pull yourselves toward yourselves,,,,, and let's move alone...

This airspace nonsense is costing us serious money. Must come to an end now. What bussiness can survive with 1 week of cashflow for a month. It is obvious that the people that are making these decisions do not pay salaries, they just earn them so it's easy to decide on somebody else's fate when it does not effect you...
