Re: ICASA - NON DELIVERY!!!!

Postby Peter.L. » Tue Jul 10, 2012 5:58 pm

Hi Guys,

This post is primarily aimed at Gadget as we have exchanged correspondence previously, however, there are a considerable number of other respondents who will be in a similar position and to whom this mail will also apply.

I have for a considerable period of time attempted to play down ICASA's shortcomings and failure to provide what is required by its customers in the way of renewal notices, licences, etc. At the same time I have attempted to "pour oil on troubled waters" and deflect the, often justified, criticism aimed at ICASA and all its employees. This ceases forthwith, largely because I, in common with the other aggrieved parties represented on this and other Forums, have been fed a line of bull second to none!

Gadget, your licence along with most others, is fully paid and valid and has been ready for printing for at least as long as it has been since our last exchange of mails. The reason you have not yet received it is because our Head Office has not had the proper paper to print the licences, or renewals, on. Whether the reason for this is attributable to our own failure to order sufficient paper or whether the contracted supplier was for some reason unable to supply sufficient is for another debate in another forum. I was informed today by another colleague that HQ has now received supplies of the requisite paper and will be commencing to print all the outstanding licences, etc., as soon as they possibly can. With all the previous "stories" in mind, I will endeavour to verify this and will report back by the end of this week at the latest.

The above does not mean I am no longer prepared to assist anyone who needs assistance and contacts me by whatever means is available to them. It merely means I am finished making excuses for things which are outside my control and for which I cannot accept personal responsibility.

Regards to all,

Peter

Ask your head office to send out a vehicle to Giyani and Tzaneen. Apparantly a lot of paper has been dumped there recently by the Education Department - maybe you can salvage some for printing purposes?

Tongue in cheek..

@ Peter

I commend you for the task you have performed in challenging times. One can do so much with the prevailing "manpower" & "expertise" at one's disposal. Regrettably this is not only happening where you are employed but also in soooo many other departments in SA today. Quite frankly, seepage galore and the seams are bursting. Sadly it is going to become much worse before it even has a remote chance of improving. You see, BEE & AA has taking care of the exceptional service delivery we were once accustomed to. Now the primary goal in this country is to fill the government coffers way before there is any return or value for money received.

So too are sections such as ATNS going to be filled with persons unable to pronounce the average english words used in aviation and notably the young white female students that have an aptitude for aviation slithered down the scale with the only excuse they did not make the cut! A new punchline word being EQ (Emotional Quotient or Intelligence) being waved in newcomers face. Our airspace IS GOING TO BECOME SERIOUSLY CHALLENGING and us pilots are going to have to be even more vigilant!

I am seriously concerned!!!

ICASA - NON DELIVERY!!!!

Postby Gadget » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:44 am

@Peter.

Thanks Peter. Just this reply from you makes the world of difference. Now I know I should wait at least one month before asking again. A lot of places with poor service delivery does not understand the small fact that "An informed customer is a happy customer". If people like Elzana at ICASA just took 20 seconds to reply to my mail and say they received it and will look into it, it would make the world of difference on my, and others attitude towards ICASA.

I agree, you have been trying to cover the others asses and it is not fair. When a bridge has a faulty stay and it does not get checked and repaired on a regular basis, it will eventually give in and collapse. Once it has collapsed the people who were responsible for checking it will start feeling the loss and rebuild it. Unfortunately that is an all too true description of what is happening here. Thus my reason why I am bombarding them with email. Including the ceo, whom I took on personally last year with the same issue. My fight is about the fact that I am being forced to pay for something I am not getting. We do need ICASA, it would be chaos on the frequency spectrum if it was un-regulated. Thanks for the help thus far but for now, my 155 howitzer's barrel stays pointed in that general direction.

On a lighter note, John, you lot have done such a great thing with Aeroclub, Misasa and Raasa. Why don't you suggest at the next meeting that a solution be found where a license is issued to one of these bodies covering specific spectrum, radio's and aircraft etc. Something like what is being done with the 4x4 clubs. So when a pilot renews their pilot's licence it includes the radio license. Less paperwork and hassle for everyone. I am sure there must be a workable solution that the guys with brains can figure out.

N.B. I work for a transaction switching company and am busy talking to the powers that be to see if there is a cost effective way of issuing credit card type license, like with photo and all info an a chip etc. It is a long process but I think it can be done.
