Hi Gert

We are busy now make the second (the first in production line) trike.
The most expensive part of this aircraft is the engine.
Simonini 250 cc 30 hp engine costs R36,000.
Cheapest engine (200 cc 26 hp from China) is going for R18,000.
The wing: we can use normal HG wing with area 17 - 19 m2.
We also are going to design special light simple topless wing about 17 m2.
The price estimated R25,000.
Second hand HG wing you can buy for R10,000 - R15,000.
To make the trike and put everything together we will charge about R10,000 - R15,000.
So the price for the whole aircraft - R45,00 - R70,000.

We are planning to start production of those trikes in about 6 weeks time.

Regards,
Jenya.

Anyone seen more of this? I am very keen to go this route.

It seems as if I will need a conversion of some sorts if this is flown as a hang glider, yet I could not get a response from the SAHPA.

So could anyone here help me?

Yenja?

- May 2010

My constant begging for more information has paid off ..
" We only sold first one and now busy to make second one and prepare all technological equipment for serial production like jigs and so on.

The complete new aircraft with Simonini mini 2 evo 32 hp engine (electr. starter), 3 blade carbon fibre prop and new Discus 15T wing is R92,000. With Minari F1 VRFE 26 hp engine - R72,000. With topless wing it will be about R10,000 extra.

(With MPL ) So your conversion is just a formality. The guy who have bought our first aircraft also has MPL. And he just flew it straight away with a little ground instructions. He is very happy with his new plane."
I will try to get the owner of the first trike to talk about his experience.

I would also like to know what it involves to get it registered as a motorised hang glider, rather than a trike. The reason for this is that I would like to avoid the yearly Ra Ra Raasa fight.

Also, I asked Jenya whether all the paperwork for the trike (with CAA) has been done, ie is it just a matter of buying..

As far as prices .... more pricey than originally reported, but am still very interested.
