I think that is a waste of airtime - it is given that if someone is nearby that they would respond - i don't think it is necessary to say that.
Something that I have learned around the patch  especially when approaching an airfield - seems I must de-learn it.

If I want to fly from Fisantekraal to Vredendal VFR and I'm outside Langebaanweg airspace, do I broadcast on 124,8 or on 126,5? The way I understand it, you have to broadcast on 126,5 when you're above 1500ft and you are outside controlled airspace and in Cape Town FIR.
And when you broadcast on 126,5, do you call Cape Town information or do you just broadcast for other traffic :? :? :? on this frequency?
For that matter, should you be flying from FAFK to the GF area you are suppose to change frequency from 124,8 to 126,5?
But when I had my training, I was flying over Diemerskraal in the GF area at 4000ft and broadcasting on 124,8. This would be wrong then, if I'm correct? :? :? (**) (**)

     Man you oukes have a moerse lot of airspace down there...

Usually below 1500 ft is 124.8, but I see CT FIS is reported as FL105/GND. Me I would go 124.80 (outside all the FAR and military space) below 1500 and 126.50 above. Usually "CT West" on 126.50 (if they can hear you and you can hear them) they will advise of any conflicting traffic and will "control" you (give reporting points and advise of conflicting traffic, If you have TX they will assign swark code). If no coms, broadcast intentions blind on 126.50 above 1500ft AGL...

I flew a BB from Saldana to Jhb via Vredendal 2 years ago and I spoke to Langebaan as I had to pass through their airspace (fogenmist over da sea). They were dead quiet (am told no money for fuel to fly) and most accommodating. Rest of the way around 500agl I was only aerie in the air on 124.80 in that area. Could not raise CT West on 126.50, but we were low... Some nice sights down that way.... Following the railway line makes nav easy

PS
    Did I mention how much controlled airspace you oukes down there have in such a small area

Hehehe, and me also a Afrikaans speakin' oukie and the conflicting traffic I get in my brain, when I start to speak English over the radio, really confuse me much more. You know; you start to speak in English and you think in Afrikaans and the next thing you know you can't even pronounce easy words that you've just rehearsed in your mind (**) :? :!: .

And these days the airforce must have some money to spare again for there are ATC on duty at Langebaan most of the times on a weekend. Always a good thing to hear very capable ATC on 122,5 !!!! !!!!

Must just say that from the way things look on a Avi map from your area, things does look very complicated there. Much more then here   .

He he he. Dis seker makliker waar jy altyd vlieg...

Around Jhb is Piss. Under the TMA we have 2 freq and the various strips with dedicated freq.... Outside that it usually 124.4(GF's) 124.80 or 119.50. Very little military traffic and as long as you stay out of FAJS (and sometimes FALA) space you A OK....

See the attached pic.

Route 1 over the mountains north of Eendekuil. Use the Red letters as indicators
Area A, 124.8 remain below 2000ft. Above that you talk to FACT and need a transponder
Area A-B 124.8 Below 4500ft ALT, Above that you talk to FACT and need a transponder
Area B-C 124.8 Below 1500ftAGL, 126.5 1500ftAGL-12000ft ALT, Above that 122.5 Langebaanweg
Area C-D 124.8 Below 1500ftAGL, above that 122.5 Langebaan weg
Area D to Vredendal - 124.8 below 1500ft AGL, 126.5 above

The purple route, if you don't want to go over the big klippe and it's much more scenic via Saldanha
A-b 124.8 remain below 2000ft. Above that you talk to FACT and need a transponder
b-c 124.8 Below 4500ft ALT, Above that you talk to FACT and need a transponder
c-d 124.4 FAD200, below 4000ft
d-e 124.8 Below 4500ft ALT, Above that you talk to FACT and need a transponder
e-f 124.8 Below 1500ftAGL, 122.5 Langebaan Weg
f- 3nm from g 122.5 Langebaan approach
g Salndanha Airfield 122.7
once leaving Saldanha, h-i, 122.5 Langebaanweg
i-Vredendal 124.8 below 1500ft AGL, 126.5 above

see not complicated at all   8)

NOTE: Generally speaking any area where you are going to be talking to CTinformation you should have your Altimeter set to 1013.25
And when you broadcast on 126,5, do you call Cape Town information or do you just broadcast for other traffic :? :? :? on this frequency?
First you call with something like, "Cape Town Information good morning" If they respond then tell them who you are, where you are, what altitude and where you are going. They are lekker people and have even kept us up to date with the rugby scores on the way to Carnavon  8) . If no answer, then broadcast as per normal on 126.5 the same information. Sometimes if you are very low, they will relay messages to you via another aircraft.
:? :? (**) (**)
124.8 untill you enter the FAD200 GF. Remain below 2000ft if in TMA "A" and below 4500 TMA "B"

Morph, now you’ve done it. I am now totally confused with your “redline route” Maybe I have a very old map?
We must get together so that you can show me how.
