Yes one of the best places to practice your crosswinds and engine-out emergencies.
Why it faces 09/27, don't know. Perhaps it was the easiest using an existing road and not messing with the ploughed lands too much.

G-CDRM (cn PFA/323-14203) Lying inverted on the runway following a crash on landing. The nosewheel appeared to dig into the ground and the aircraft flipped over (Note the broken nosewheel and grass in the air intake). Both occupants escaped without major injuries.
