I'm making that decision right now. I love this country and fought in a war for it. BUT I will not be able to live with myself if something had to happen to one of my immediate family members. My gran got tied up, raped ,P!ssed on , burnt with cigarette buts, kicked and even more horrible things that I can`t describe here. A good friend were stabbed and then held down to die in front of his wife and baby. That child is scarred for life. She doesn't understand that it was a bad person who did this she can only use what she has got and that would be the color of his skin. Very unfortunate. Being a patriot is one thing, being naive is another. Running away is sometimes a good thing, providing you start in time. Im gone, not an easy decisition to make but one that I have to do.

I.M.H.O. - This country has so much to offer if you can get past the "element" and just keep a positive atitude which granted, is very difficult sometimes. I am making a very good living here and im sure the majority of people on this forum are. Im not saying that I cant make it elsewhere, but we do have it lekker here, and the econmy is booming!
I too have been affected by crime in many ways but I'm willing to stick it out here untill the end.
I will be the one that will turn the lights off when I leave (or blow out the candle).
Most of my family has done the big trek to oz, but Africa is is my blood and im staying put!!

We are sorry that we do not trust the police force and although they have openly admitted that they have lost the war against crime and criminals, we should not be so negative and just keep on hoping for the best.
We are sorry that we basically flung open our border posts, and now left you competing for jobs against illegal immigrants from our beautiful neighboring countries. All these countries that have grown so strong after kicking out the "settlers", you should follow their excellent example and grow big and strong like them!
We are sorry that we don't believe in witchcraft, beetroot and garlic, urinating on street corners or trading woman for cattle, maybe we just grew up differently. So sorry that when we are forced into sharing the same establishments, sometimes we loose our temper, that is totally uncalled for.
We are sorry that your medical care, water supplies, roads, and your electrical supplies are going down the toilet because skilled people who could have planned and resolved these issues had to be shown away because they were of the wrong ethnic background and now has to work in foreign countries where their skills are more needed.
We are so sorry and should really try harder to be more tolerant and learn to get along with EVERYBODY around us, one big happy family.

We going to Oz in Nov. It is nto about running away, I just cannot do anythign to influence the direction this country takes. We whites are minority and the politics is immature, so we will not have true democracy for long time, if ever (This is Africa).
Been broken into many times and wife and son hijacked. Not waiting for anything more serious to happen. Plus with BEE there is no real future for me or my kids. I can go on, but chose not to becoem ths ex-SA perosn who whines about how bad it is.
So OZ here we come, even if I am losing half my wealth in the process. I am confident that I will build it up again quickly.
BTW IMHO, most people who knock Oz and other countries have usually never been there. They ae just bad mouthing the places because they are trying to justify staying in SA. Usually because they are too lazy and too scared to make the move...both of which are perfectly good reasons!!

Hi everyone,
You all sound so positive about immigrating as if the choice is solely yours.
I've not tried yet, but many of my colleagues have been trying for two years or more without any success. Am I missing something or are you all just so much younger that other countries would rather have you?
I tried an Australian on-line assessment recently and the result was that I do not qualify, was too old (anything over 45) to look at my qualifications, current position or any career related material. I did not pursue it more after that.
The ONLY thing that will save this nation is a full blown revival. Unfortunately this only happens if enough go on their knees begging and pleading for it. I have not come across too many who are willing for this kind of effort and/or commitment. The second best thing would be for enough to plead for the removal of the corrupt leaders out of their positions of authority, maybe this will require less to participate, but alas, not too many around for this also.
So, I'll most probably have to stay and fight - no other choices.

Oz is probably the most difficult in the world. NZ is a lot easier, as is USA and Canada. There are many options of you keep at it.
I do understand that age is often an issue, but it can be overcome by applying under different categories.

I would try stay in Africa as long as I can.
Got to have animals and nature. There's something about flying and seeing jackals, warthogs, owls in the late afternoon that makes all problems seem minuscule. Or going to the Kalahari and just listening to the night sounds.
South Africa provides me with the finances to do what I enjoy, I can't see OZ, NZ, UK, Can or even the US providing the same. Yes you can come on holiday to see animals but it's NOT the same.
Some people are happy with seeing sheep all the time and consider that nature or camping called nature. Nature is having Rhinos walk through camp, admiring vultures inflight playing with an AntLion in the sand and having mother spiders run up your legs. I doubt Kangaroos could keep you entertained for long. What would I spend my money on? Cars? TV games and cable? No thanks.
Nature and Africa make me feel alive - if that makes any sense.
Where else in the world can you even get a hint of that?!
Botswana perhaps deserves more investigation...

I agree Roy, but your perspectives change when someone sticks a gun to your wife and son's head. Suddenly Warthog are not that important.
Also it is extremely one-eyed to believe that the only animals in Oz are Kangaroos.
