SA RAF

This is a totally irresponsible post - much like bragging about high speeds reached and exceeding VNe. Once again, if the aircraft flight manual says that your max payload is X, then your max payload is X, not X plus whatever you can still get off the ground with.

Even more shocking is the fact that you are the agent for this aircraft and that you are obviously using this as a marketing tool to potential customers. Honesty and promotion of safety margins in aviation is non-negotiable.

Did you do a CofG calculation? Have you done stress testing to the higher MAUW? I find it ludicrous that an representative for an aircraft would make anecdotal information become fact.

Even worse is that you are an instructor!!!!

Safety in general aviation starts at the top and filters down to the student pilot. Let us all think about our actions and its consequences in the future of our sport in South Africa.

Guy's Guy's Guy's

My apologies for the Typo the web developer made on my site......

Gross Weight 1540 lbs.
Dry Weight 790 lbs.
Payload 750 lbs.

Correction to all that think you are speaking to Eben Mocke SNR, this is Eben Jnr here. And I am NOT an Instructor on the RAF just to correct those who thought so.

I only posted this for interest sake, but like always every body comes out firing at the poor old RAF.......

I was well in the limits of the RAF when I took the 140kg guy up for a flip.

140 + 85 + 60 = 285kg (340kg)

I did not act irresponsibly by taking the guy up as I know the limits and capabilities of the RAF, nor do I think this was a irresponsible post to those who thought so.

I have only flown 3 of 4 times in a Magni and Ela and as all of you know at the back you can not see what the pilot sees, like instruments and stuff like that. This is why I asked this Q. Not to promote the RAF or brag about its capabilities, but for interest sake.

A little bit of passion keeps it interesting.  8)

Be aware, that you might have been within the MAUW of the gyro, but is there not a max seat loading? I Know most microlights have a max seat loading of 100 to 120KG

Additionally does your GPL allow you to fly beyond the 450kg limit?

Andy Kasparson wanted me to go for a run after every flying lesson - He called it lesson 26 or some kak - Maybe that's why (The 120kg thing).....I thought he just wanted to torture me.

Anyhow - I better chew on some carrots for a while

Yes Like you said , "a little bit of passion makes is very interesting"

I have a lot of passion in flying the RAF and will not step down to anyone bad mouthing it. Like I have seen and shown in the past , the proof is in the pudding.

There is not a max seat loading in the RAF, all depends on fuel on board, pilot and pax weight, as long as this does not exeed 750 pounds. (340kg)

And yes it does allow me to as the all up weight for the RAF is 1540 pounds.

To anyone that took any offence in the posting of my post where I told you about my expierance with a heavy pax. I was not trying to sell or promote my Gyro. Thought that I would share this with you as all of us share our expierances with each other, like the guy's telling us how fast the Quik is and how he did 125MPH in it..............Why did he not get the same negetave responce as I?? Anyway, I am not hear to brag or bad mouth anybody or plane, I am hear to share my photos and expierances with all that enjoy flying.

happy flying

Hi Saraf

Per Sagpa http://sagpa.co.za/sagpa/content/view/79/56/
MTOW 603 kg emty 331 kg
= 272 kg

I was referring to your comment about the guys in Witbank 140 kg pax and 135 kg pilot. Well above the 272 kg.

The negative responses was because I thought that you are flying above MAUW. My apologies for that, but the spec’s are also wrong at SAGPA’s website.

It is a good sign if the flying community is responding to reckless behavior which this was not if the stats are correct.

This will improve the safety record and could save someone’s life.

Hi T-bird

http://www.rotaryairforce.com/raf2000/specs.html - Here is the correct specs for the RAF 2000 gyro plane. The information on the Sagpa website is wrong. Specs on my site fixed.

maybe you understood this part of the post wrong

"Has been done, John van der Merwe, at Witbank, 6000ft guy 140kg , climb rate was not that impressive but took the father of 135kg and his son of 140 for a flip. "

the father (135kg) and son (140) was taken by John Van Der Merwe (Pilot) about 100kg's.

No reckless behavior of any sort here, all way within the aircraft specs.

I would just like to state, if anybody thought that I am a irresponsible or reckless pilot ,I am not , that stats provided on the two stats was wrong.

Little miss communication happened here. But no worries....... :D

Ons arme dik ouens! :( Ek sit self my trike se 120 kg "max per seat" (as daar so iets is) ver verby! Ek laai egter nie iemand op wat meer as 100kg weeg nie.
So ek dink SARAF is heel binne specs. Hy is n klein outjie.
Come land at Wintervogel and take me for a flip. Never been in one of those Gyros before! I just see you going overhead all the time......
