It took me one look at the negative comments posted on Avcom for me to decide that I actually didn't want to be part of that any more.

One thing that I do stand by is that I personally feel that it was a good photo (otherwise I would never have entered it and the other 3 that I did!) and I was really pleased that it reached the last 24.

The comments made were that I / we were soliciting votes which none of the other entrants were doing; my reply was that this actually proves how passionate we are about microlighting.

Thanks for all the votes, if anything it proves how loyal we are and that we will stick together!

Demon, bring on the Microlighters Calendar; you will see a lot of enthusiastic support for your efforts.

one of the reasons i want to fly microlights is because everywhere you go you always feel wellcome...

SO Wart, are you telling me that NO-ONE on avcom, will vote for a particular pic, because their friend took the pic?? And exactly as you said, we are passionate about it, and yours might be (I have not seen all the entrants), yours might be the only microlighting related pic there. Oh well, I think the calender might be full of larger craft. Come on Demon, lets do a microlighting only calender.

Guys I think you also need to get the story 100% correct. We were finding many non registered avcommers that were voting. That way there can be no control over the voting process and can lead to any person registering a bunch of free mail addresses on hotmail and vote for 1 photo and hence skewing the vote.

It has zippo to do with if someone is passionate or not. All pilots are passionate whether they fly cloth, tin, plastic.

There were negative comments this side too - but did anyone add their 2c to that - No!

Sometimes I wonder if the perceived rift is not caused by your own thinking.

Harsh words indeed. See my post on Avcom. The members that posted on the Avcom thread were complaining about the fact that the members of this site were canvassed. The first I knew of the problem of non-Avcom members voting was in Chris's reply to my post. I agree that is not on. I however see no problem with people canvassing votes.

I think a rift does exist but it is unfair to try and pass blame......their are two parties to all arguments......Chill guys...... puff

Hey, don't you just love it how I manage to step in it time and time again. Here I was thinking that I could make microlighters aware of the nice microlight (and other) picture on the Avom Calendar to be. So now we have a democratically (and "democratically" does allow for canvassing, doesn't it) elected winner, and the politburo doesn't like the result, so they start complaining. I hope the pic stays in the competition, and that all microlighters.co.za members will vote for it (if they like) and some of the others.

As for my picture of Graham in front of Table Mountain - not really such a good picture - although it won on ww.avweb.com I posted it simply because I know it would compete with all these guys with their bazooka lenses, whereas I took it blindly with a snapper, not knowing the result before I got home. And it has a lense smudge mark in the right corner.

Now let me see where I can go and create some more havoc  Ah there you are Trixie. Come on Trix, time flies, where is my new efrican askies - the magazine you hate.
To be Late.

Wart - sorry, I didn't mean to pick on your pic personally. Don't withdraw it, as it has reached the final choice and you should be proud of that. Just because the pic isn't my favorite, doesn't mean I will be changing January to Feb before 1 Feb!

I was really objecting to Gert's post which asked people to vote for the picture based on it being a microlighting pic and not based on whether they liked it. If he had just said "take a look at Avcom and vote for your favourite photo", then I would have had no objection.

Gertjie, I know as an ex-PPL pilot, you are extraordinarily pro-microlighting, but this type of post separates microlighters from the rest of the flying fraternity instead of encouraging them to join us. I doubt if you would have been brave enough to canvass all microlighters on Avcom. Giving the link and the photo number to vote for is really not encouraging fair choice!

Talk about a red rag to a bull

As far a not encouraging fair choice goes. Even though we only drive microlights some of us are almost capable of an independent thought and opinion. (Hey!! Who keeps ringing that bell?? Why do I keep drooling?? Woof!? Woof!)
