Kevin,

If you enjoy a good whiskey that is not ridiculously expensive, try a bottle of Singleton 12 Year old Single Malt... Ask Darrell, He had a bottle of Chivas 12 Year old to compare it to, and said it was vastly superior...

See you and Vern soon

Craig,
Daryl is too much of a tight arse to have Chivas12 year old.LOL. I have never known him to drink whiskey, just look at his gut, that is Windhoek draft. He is a little scared to come and visit again after we punished him the last time.
looking forward to have someone to fly with when you get here.It can get rather boring flying on your own.I have an Aquilla 503 I started flying in 1998 and this is my 4th trike. You cant beat an Aquilla, nice docile wing and strong undercarriage, not the fastest but when you fly trikes you dont want speed.I also used to have a Jabiru but not as much fun as a trike

The Chivas was given to him by his contractor tenant, and the Singleton by me... Him and Gary (the tenant) sat and finished off half a bottle of the Singleton a couple of weeks ago when I also visited for dinner...

as for punishment, the bunch visiting over December are not heavy drinkers at all, and considering we are flying the next day, it will have to be a gentle night...

As for the Aquilla, love it... did most of my training on one, although it had a 618 in it which is seriously powerful... but at the reef, that is a very good thing...

My own bird is a raptor with a 582... but with wing speeds etc, she only cruises at 55mph...

Craig,
The raptor is a very nice trike with a very strong undercarriage.I have flown one.I found that if I induced a stall it dropped a lot more radically than the Aquilla 1 wing.I must say it gave me a bit of a Skrik, but then what do pilots say, One good Skrik is better than 10 hours dual instruction

I'll show you the photos of the crash I had in training, it's amazing what the cart can absorb instead of those on board.

And you are right, that skrik has had a huge impact on my thought processes.

Very interesting reading and make me think about my flight along SA coastline a couple of years ago. :)
It was winter time and weather was better than what you can expect during summer time.
I was so unfamiliar with the trike scene then, that I flew past Vernon and Kevin ( in the sticks) without knowing about them.( to my disadvantage!)
Will have to make up for that before the final whissle ! ( verskoon die spelling ek sukkel daarmee!)
The Transkai coastline is unbeatable as far as scenery are involved.
Good luck Craig and be patient with the weather. It will have an impact on your flight.
In Grahamstown I had to stay over for a week before the weather was suitable to fly.
We will follow your thread and do post pictures.

Hi Blue Max,
When you feel like a flight down the Transkei coast you welcome to stay over anytime.I see you say the weather is better during winter, now I have found the complete opposite .I prefer the flying in summer as one can start flying a lot earlier and finish a lot later, admittedly you dont want to be flying midday on a hot summers day. In winter you run the risk of a Westerly buster coming through that would make your eyes water.Along the coast give me summer time anyday

Hi Carl, Vernon,

Ended up making this a road trip, APE was not 100% ready yet, and I didn't want to rush things...
Wouldn't have made much of a difference though, as flying days were in the minority... the stages from Joies to the coast were not possible either, first one due to the airspace restrictions, then weather too...

My Jeep had a sensor problem which was sorted out on it's replacement... No more issues on that front... Vern, I had just replaced it when I saw you, and it didn't give me any more hassles from there...

From a Flying perspective, I was able to arrange with Alasdair from Brown's Landing to hire his Aquilla, so at least I did get to do some coastal flying... Next year though, I will be taking my own bird, and flying as much as possible.

Cheers

Craig
