I think there's some merit in Nicow's statement.
Being a farmer himself he's only too aware of the barbaric violent farm murders which happen far more freqently than our ridiculous average without attracting too much attention from the authorities. Then you have a farmer who having caught stock thieves and when presenting them to the police gets told that he will be spending the weekend in the same cell as them because they will be pressing charges of assault against him.
Add the frequent sheep loss by seeing just the head and sheepskin littered on the veld or stud bulls having their hind ligaments hacked and just the hind quarters removed and you realise the barbarity which is equalled with poaching.
If the law was effectively applied and the games parks allowed more of their revenue to fund poaching with more help from the military the scenario would be different.
