Re: talking on the radio
I understand where you are coming from, but maybe time the instructors teach this to their students. If anything, a circuit is the easiest place to go without the radio, because your anticipation of what other aircraft will do is so much better.Alkemac wrote:Sorry - not possible when you are in a busy training area, under instruction..

Yes it is, done this for 20 years instructing. I have had to turn the radio down many times due to clutter. A good instructor can still hear a faint radio call thats nearby and instruct a student. If you are training at a busy airport then there should be seperate freq, but at a quiet airport, then the 124.8 will be clear if the trafic is close and broken when trafic is far. pay more attention to the clear traffic calls. I am not saying to turn the radio off, but to turn the volume down so that questions from the student can be addressed asapAlkemac wrote:Sorry - not possible when you are in a busy training area, under instruction..

Re: talking on the radio
Hi guys, just arrived in the land of the LEPRACHAUNS. I was en route to Groblersdal on SATURDAY morning and must agree that it was impossible to communicte on the vfr frequency .
I just wish some of the fellows will talk as needed and not just talk rubbish for the sake of talking , it is inconsidderate and just bad manners , no wonder some ppl pilots think lite sport is a joke - its about attitude - yes Dawid , youre right , you can say what you like as long as you like , but its attitude , Leprachaun

Ditto. More time instructing and listening to the radio...
If you have idea of who is where going in and make periodic calls then not a problem. Closing speeds are also not huge, so this also helps...
I have flown plenty in JHB special rules area without making a single radio call (simply because i can't get call in) without much trouble. The airspace is busy but eyeball mark 101 is far easier than eyesinsideradiodriver trying to ID someone "near" to him... When I have got IF instruction the instructor has turned down the radio and he looks out for conflicting. Distractions are mother of all F.Ups.. Less time talking more time flying... The radio calls that are clear are also closer than the guy you can't hear. If you cant hear him he is usually far away and thus in theory not a problem...
Just my 2c...

I hear what you say, but IMHO, it's what works for me that is important to me.
We are based in the Helicopter GF, and they track and change a lot quicker than we do..

Yip. 100%, but that does not mean it not possible....
Have trained plenty at Pano's. They will watch for you as much as you watch for them...
Enjoy.... and quiet rightly. Do what works for you...

Re: talking on the radio
This is ridiculous! I have been known to chat a little from time to time, but it seems as if ICASA is now going to make us pay! How the heck are they going to differential between normal and unnecessary radio talk? What next? Does this mean they now monitor every Tom, Dick and Barry?

Re: talking on the radio
LOL, not sure about this but I belive that is a computer generated letter to scare people. Charging will just promote pilots NOT to report and that leads to a safety issue, but then on the other hand I can see SAACAA trying to regualte a fun sport even more. Soon you will be charged to take a crap in your own house
