I believe this would be relatively easy to hoax, putting a flag on the moon gives the USA ownership of the moon. I wonder how they dealt with the 1/6th gravity, no atmosphere, unsure if the surface is hard or powdery and all the other unknowns for the actual landing.
Where would one be able to test the landing module before the event? And then get it right first time with the technology of the day. Guys battle to get a new concept aerie to take off & land on earth, even today with 99.9% facts known, huge amount of experiance, and massive technology, wind tunnels etc etc.
If they did it hats off, BEEEEG kahoonas on those boykies.

Why is it, that the Russians with superior space technology, couldn't land on the moon, when the Americans could. Lets be honest, it's easy to believe when there is (fake) pictures to show it.

The 1/6th gravity was simulated in huge water tanks, underwater, endless training and studying, flying the lunar module on earth, which apparently was far more sensitive than an R22 helicopter... the landing site that was originally chosen was on a wide open flattish area which they actually overshot, due to a malfunctioning computer Armstrong actually manually took over and landed the module... there were probes on the end of the landing gear to check for soil density, and the landing gear had curved plates to help settle or rather support the modules weight, the eject button was just waiting to get pushed to abort if anything went pear shaped.... Many passes were made of the landing area and scientists studied the surface for years...they had a pretty good idea what to expect... and no it was not all perfect, lives were lost, Apollo1, during training some test flights ended in tragedy, some missions aborted (Apollo13) and that was a close one, the crew came very close to losing their lives, it took exceptional ability from the crew and ground crew to bring them back safely.

One has to realize that these were and are no ordinary individuals, their experience and training is of the highest order, as I said before most are highly experienced combat pilots, test pilots with PhD’s....and even with this a couple of years of intense training for the lunar program
The budget for NASA was/is, with very talented technical - aerospace, technology support....

As I mentioned above too, speaking with these guys one understands just how amazingly qualified these guys are and a civilian ATP is like a birthday Ken qualification, minuscule and very junior compared to the experience, exposure and training these guys have undergone.

As somebody mentioned a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre will make one appreciate the scope of NASA....some of the top combat pilots of the US Navy, Airforce, and Marines apply and fail to get into the NASA program....

I think it was Apollo 1 that had an onboard fire in the capsule killing three astronauts, whilst it was over in a few seconds and despite being burnt alive all three completed their emergency shutdown procedures before they died...

Much of the aircraft we fly today is the result of intensive NASA testing and involvement

Believe what you believe I just wish I could get onto the NASA program for mars; I would go in a heartbeat even the moon again....

The Russian did not due to the massive costs, they were a couple of years close but really could not match the actual Lunar capsule landing technology the US were involved in... and whilst Russian focus was in near earth orbit, the US was planning for the moon long before the Russians...

I have also returned from visiting the Kennedy Space Centre, I can say that the moon landing certainly did happen. The men who were involved in that space program have to be commended for their bravery , going into what was a virtually unknown environment.

If you watch the programs made on it you'll know they didn't do this as a first time one shot excersize. They made a whole lot of flights - first just around - then into moon orbit. Then they had the lander module just detach - circle and re-attach. Then they did a low level 'fly-by' and only then did they go for the actual touch down.

Oh come on Wargames..........that's not even the correct footage of what Nasa has put out and the voice is not right either. Neither is that the correct way in what it was said. The space suits also don't match. Armstrong was already on the surface with both feet by the time he said those famous words......in the video link he's shown to be still on the ladder.
