Also us plebs that are not flying in (me, my softness & pilot to be) - how do we get access to the base! do the film crew need clearances to use their equipment there?

Please advise dear sir! :-)

I'm meeting with Col Sheperd tomorrow and will advise accordingly. How come you're not flying in? Breakfast is available from the museum canteen at the base. I will be confirming with them tomorrow.

Well I'll ask 1 Time to reroute to Swartkops.... Flying from George on Friday. I asked Mike Gill to fly my plane in from Springs as it is still there....

I'll wait for your feedback then...

Alpha, check your ATF first. Flights over JHB and Sandton NOT permitted.. ##

Hi Duck,

I called ATNS flight planning and asked what the best route would be. I mentioned I was in a trike and they advised me of this route, the Kyalami corridor starts at the Sandton towers and they suggest we use that route.

is there something I am missing as I do not want this to be an issue?

ATNS don't determine the "terms and conditions" of your ATF, the CAA does :(
Your ATF clearly states "not over built-up areas" or something like that. Honestly, I don't have the right answer for you. Maybe someone else can help us here.

I wish George was still here....... :( :(

In my humble opinion its not about what the ATF says, albeit that its says you cant fly over built up areas except for the purposes of taking off or landing. its about the fact that if the donkey died over those areas you have absolutely nowhere to go???? (barring the odd golf course) - I would suggest that you plan a route skirting round the built up areas? either round past the bottom end of lanseria ?? Havent looked at a map but i think east will get you into a spot of bother.. what are you flying??

Ditto...

Yes Duck it does say that we cannot fly over built up areas unless it is for take off or landing, but there must be a way round this??? What route would best suit the trip from Kliprivier?

Duck my softness wants to hitch a ride otherwise I would offer you the back seat.

Hi Patches,

I am flying a 503 trike with a raptor 17 wing, I am trying to find the best way possible that will not take forever to get there and back. The other thing is I would like to avoid all controlled airspaces if possible and that leaves only this route to me.

In saying that My trike has never died on me and I am confident on making the trip on the Kyalami Route, however I do not want to be over confident and would rather take safety as a first option.

So I need to have a relook at this.... ## ## ##

FFS !!! I typed a longt reply and my internet crashed.... great trike, stay well well away from JHB and sandton, plus the fact that if yuou headed up that way you would go straight into grand centrals airspace. rather route west, over the dome (MUCH LESS BUILT UP) and then north toward aero 57 and pinedene. stay east of lanseria and you will be fine,... but do not go over JHB boet, thats just trouble in a can !!

Hi Alpha

I think Patches (AKA Dish) has probably got the shortest route for you. The only other way I can suggest is to route to Springs, then Petit, Microland and then join the Pinedene Route from the east?

Either way there is gonna be a lot of radio work!

Hi Patches,

Thanks for the in put, I will have a look at the way round the CBD, flying the Kyalami route takes one right in between the airspaces of Lanseria and Grand Central, Ideal route but I guess not for a Trike...

Dont think its a bad idea to call lanseria and GC and just let the ATCs know that there will be a lot of activity on saturday morning. They are hell of a friendly and always willing to accomodate if possible, but at least they will know that there is an event up the road. Bundy i think east from klip will be very busy as you need to route around ORT as well. Shame that its slap bang south of FASK and that any route there is a mission... go east young man.... go east - unnlessssss you hook up with some of the microland boys and go that way?? - dont know choina its a quandry !!!

Alpha

From Kliprivier you can route towards Tedderfield then Orlando Power Station and then straight North in the corridor to Aero57 then east to Zwartkop.
We fly that route when we go south to Panorama and Teddefield.

Should not be a problem. From the Orlando Power sation to Aero57 there are lots of golf courses etc so we just follow them.

Cheers
