Well due to some really marginal weather till around 09:30 a lot of guys didn't manage to make it from their airfields. We left with 2 other cheetahs at 09:45 from petit and soon after we landed at springs the weather cleared. In total there was around 11 planes and we had a good little visit and a stunning brunch with the crew from cheetah. May their operation go from strength to strength and they really do have my full support. The owners of cheetahs in training schools told us why they are such good training aircraft and I can not say anything more than I whole heartedly agree.
Soon as I downloaded some pics i'll post. Athol from african pilot was there and they did some in-flight pics some of which should be in a future edition. I had to sit out there unfortunately to allow one of the photograpers a seat.
After lunch we flew back and it was a very hot day by that time.

I am sorry I could not make it. Maybe we should have a National Cheetah Fly-In to a more central venue. Ray, if I get that list we can make work of it. Plan ahead for NEXT YEAR! (^^)
I am sure we'll be able to scrounge at least 8 Cheetahs just from around here... eg

1 from Hopetown (Blommie)
1 from Marydale (Matheus)
1 from Douglas (Neville)
1 from Kimberley (me...)
1 from Hartswater (Dawid)
1 from Vryburg (Andy)
1 from Olifantshoek (Maarten)
1 from Kathu (Abrie)

Looking forward to the photos...

We (DVT and AZU) joined somewhat belatedly and in our trikes. Pity the wx didnt play along, I'm sure there would've many more of these great aircraft present should the weather have been good

I left Ladysmith at 05:20 for Springs via Circus airfield and got as far as Frankfort. Thick mist started building below me and overhead Deneysville I decided to turn around. After speaking to Russ from Circus on the radio and to a very helpfull station on the ground near the Vaal dam who informed me of thick mist below and ahead I knew I had made the right decision to return home. I was so close - only 35 miles away - but rather safe than sorry!! Reached home at 09:10 (sore bum sitting for so long) after spending 3.8 hours in the air. :( :(

Hope you guys had a good time - Stephan post some pics please! vhpy vhpy :)
Regards

Larry

The guys got given some gifts and memorabillia. Andy and Brian recieved genuine Russian aviator's goggles. What a nice gift and not something you can just buy anywhere. These are made with real glass lenses and even has a tinted glass lens as well.
