Re: AP and Instructors seminar 23 /24 January
Just got back from the MISASA and RAASA instructor seminar and very good it was... the part 62 situation was nicely explained, General Des Barker and Capt Colin Jordaan gave an interesting talk, something also that stood out was the RAASA online exam system has a neat feature in that you can comment and submit on a vague or questionable question - nice touch I thought...
SAAF has actually had almost a zero accident rate on a number of years 2005 and zero in 1998! Gen Des Barker explained why....
Capt Colin Jordaan also expresed concern on pilots attitudes and gave some very interesting considerations...
Ray Swales chatted about his pilot software and I actually sat down to a spot of lunch with him...pleasant man..
Great interaction and talks by various instructors but I felt pretty bad when I consumed tea and a pleasant lunch all laid on by MISASA I think and I have not been a paid up member - I promptly joined on the spot.
These seminars are fantastic gets a pilot thinking... no bickering no arguing, - constructive engagement...
Looking very forward to the Part 62 LSA thing, and thank goodness we have a commisioner who can make firm and pretty quick decisions with GA in his veins...

Yup very instructive and constructive day. Good to put a couple of more faces to names. It looks like most of the instructors will grab the RAASA/part62 thing by the horns and there is very good interaction between RAASA and the instructors so far. It's one week to go live and I think it''s a good thing.
Yes very sad to hear that only a small percentage of microligth pilots are misasa members - I think we all should be. I joined in December and picked my card up on Friday so at least I didn't feel guilty about lunch

Agree, thanks to MISASA and all involved, I had a great time and was great meeting new guys and putting faces to names. Just a note to NON members, you are going to have a hard time finding an AP to check your mashine after this weekend. Pay your fees before you phone the AP.
Thanks again to the orginisers.

Re: AP and Instructors seminar 23 /24 January
Oh yes the part 62 will be very well supported, I'm very exited about it, and there is a great task and responsibility resting on instructors, current and to be.... the standards are certainly going to be going up, but at the same time it will be an exiting and fun filled experience....and as Colin Jordaan pointed out a whole paradigm shift of better attitude is needed going forward
I was horrified when I heard how many instructors were not members of Aero Club/MISASA - me included - I realized it is a lot more beneficial to belong than not to... that goes for all really...
Yes a big tks to MISASA and RAASA for the day, the lunch, tea, - and it was just a very enjoyable constructive day...

Re: AP and Instructors seminar 23 /24 January
Misasa represents all microlight pilots and looks after our interests. Like when the 300 hour interval for the rotax 2 strokes came up they were the ones fighting to get it thrown out or extended.
They also do a lot of other things in the background that we barely know about and trust me without them we would be ina much worse place regulation wise. They were also the ones that helped in getting the sylabus for training where it is today and going to be moving forward.
Check out the website and you'll see the link to join. It's something like R425 and you can also then take out third party insurance at a nominal rate and that is a good thing to have. Third party(and thus Misasa membership) used to be compulsory but somebody decided to fight that it's against his constitutional right and it was made optional. SInce then people decided it's not worth joining Misasa and the result is that they are struggling to survive to represent our best interest.

Re: AP and Instructors seminar 23 /24 January
Yup concur with Stephen Van Tonder, joining MISASA is a very good idea all this great stuff happening now is because of the tireless effort of a very few, it could have turned out very different and then most pilots would have been worse off and crying foul, but that is what happens when there is no interest and apathy amongst pilots not to join a body... me included I'm very guilty of sitting back although I have supported the part62 LSA implementation via this forum I certainly could have been a lot more involved...
I will strongly urge all my students and fellow pilots to join Aeroclub/MISASA - if you are an active MPL/PPL it is your duty actually to join up, and the odd fellow who has an objection to his/her constitutional rights being infringed, well I think they should lighten up as the spirit of aviation and GA could vanish, there is robust grass roots aviation and then fickel political correctness, give me robust grass roots aviation thank you....
And of course the bodies like Aeroclub/MISASA need our membership fees to arrange things like instructor workshops print mags, organize events it's all very expensive and sad that a few carry the cost so the majority can enjoy.... really cannot go on like this....
There is much happening and a lot more to happen, so get off your seat and join, get involved, become informed
Have fun!
