Float Planes in SA?

Postby Gyronaut » Sat Dec 20, 2008 9:41 pm

I have always believed that float planes weren't allowed on internal waters due to the possibility of transfering water hyacinth.
I recall a thread about a possible thunderbird with floats on Harties on here a long time ago...?

Can anyone of you learned people on here confirm or debunk this for me? If its true, in terms of which regulation/law is it prohibited? Water Affairs or ANR's and does it apply to the sea? I have seen float planes operate from Table Bay (Cape Town) a few years ago...

Any info will be most welcome.

dept of water effairs is your problem.

The blunderturd was tested on Harties, but was for export. I think 1 went to Mauritius and another to Moz. Don't know the reg's off hand, but I asked at CAAand they said errr NO. Would love one of these...

There was a thunderbird that was tested in harties.

It tipped over and not sure if it was put on Floats again.

But yes water affairs here in SA is a definate problem.
