Larry

Larry at dupliprint.co.za

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Anti-poaching
2. Wildlife Research
3. Game counts and Surveys
4. GIS
5. Community development

14 hunting concessions in 5 geographic zones of Tz.

Operates 3 weight shift trikes, (Windlass 503, Aquilla 912 UL, and Aquilla 912 ULS) within these 14 concessions.
Looking for a unique individual, prepared to live out in the bush for extended periods of time, maintain and operate his allocated trike over vast and isolated bush country. The work is diverse and challenging.

Main objectives of the job:
To operate the microlight within the designated concession areas
1. Anti-poaching
2. Research and monitoring.
3. Aerial photography and Surveys
4. Mapping and other GIS related work.

Description of the concession Areas.
Although many applicants say that they love the bush, understand and are comfortable with living in remote and isolated areas. I must emphasis that there is a vast difference between living and working in the bush in SA, for example Hluhluwe GR or Kruger National Park, and the equivalent in TZ. The surrounding towns are mere villages, and no or few white people live out there. It would not be unusual that you could go a few weeks without seeing a white person. Each area has a concession manager, mostly from SA, but due to the size of the concessions you may not see each other for weeks on end.
12 of the 14 concessions are Game Reserves, but these differ dramatically to those of SA. They are vast, have little or no infrastructure, and are scattered in extremely remote parts of Tz.

Description of work and working conditions:
• Pilots will be based in the bush in one of our hunting concessions or a conglomerate of concessions.
• Will base alone from a tented camp near a bush airstrip but due to the size of these concessions will move between camps as and when necessary.
• Will be given tented accommodation, and a food ration.
• Will carry out daily flights over the concession for the purpose of Anti-poaching patrols.
• Will relay information directly to the ground Rapid Action Teams (RAT)
• Will participate in ground patrols whenever possible.
• Interaction with anti-poaching teams is the primary role of his job and a basic understanding of Swahili is necessary. (We will provide Swahili courses for this)
• Will be required to carry out Aerial Surveys as per his training.
• Will be involved with research and monitoring projects.
• Will carry out various GIS and mapping projects as per his training.
• Because HBA operates under a commercial Air Services License, it is necessary that the pilot follows the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of HBA and maintains his paperwork to the required standards.
• Pilots are required to log their daily flights on our GIS system and write up a daily report.
• After any survey, the pilot is required to write up a detailed report which is used in-house and often presented to government.
• Pilots are given formats and guidance for these reports.
• No vehicle is supplied but our company has about 5 vehicles per concession which help out the pilot when required and when available.

The Successful applicant will therefore:
• Live in a degree of isolation. (there will at times be another white person in the area)
• Not be too attached to creature comforts.
• Must be confident with basic aircraft maintenance. (Will be assisted by myself for every 100 hr inspection but carry out a 25 hr service and inspection himself)
• Will be flying over remote areas which has the obvious element of danger attached.
• Be passionate about nature conservation
• Must be healthy and fit (for anti-poaching foot patrols)

Period of Employment
This shall be for a period of two (2) years from the date of commencement of this agreement subject to fulfillment of all conditions appearing in the contract.

Should the pilot choose to end his contract before the 2 year period he will be required to pay back the cost of his initial air tickets, work permit and licensing fees.

Hi Scotman

I am not sure if this has been advertised before. I was contacted by the guys up there, but the job is not suitable for a couple, so that counts me out.

Salary is reasonable. Medical aid included.

Send me a mail if your are serious about it, I have provided enough info.

Cheers

Larry

Larry

I don't understand the problem.

A single, Grade B instructor, with 1500 trike-hours has sent his CV and no offer has been made yet? It does not get any better than that....This guy is one of the best pilots I know, will and can fly in any weather and loves the bush

Please phone me for more detail - We have the right candidate for you

Exactly ! I do understand the problem. Your guy will be better than the boss himself and he won't like that. (^^)
