Saldanha new radio freq

Postby bluesmancoops » Tue Oct 14, 2008 9:15 am

Revised Radio Procedures. Following the meeting with the WCFTC and SAAF on 10 September,
we were informed of the following changes to the local procedures:
• The use of the radio frequency (122.7) for air-to-air communications in the
Saldanha circuit will no longer be allowed. This facility is only to be used to
operate the switching of the airfield lighting.
· All radio transmissions at Saldanha are to be made on the Langebaanweg
Approach Frequency (122.5) both during office hours and after hours.
· Pilots are to phone Langebaanweg Tower prior to any flight in or out of the
Saldanha circuit (as stated in ENR 5.1-2 dated 15 Jan 08).
· Aircraft ground movement (taxiing) should be announced on 122.5.
· Normal position reporting should take place in the circuit, until otherwise
instructed by ATC.
· Termination of flying should be reported to ATC on final approach or after
landing.
· All circuits are to be flown to the west (Left on runway 02, Right on runway20).
· Departing aircraft are to maintain runway heading until radio contact is
established with ATC or until establishing that ATC is not manned.

Assume that this will also make it into the AIP and supplements so that all have access to these procedures.

I already had difficulty listening to their ATC pronounciation......you know what i mean......and this is going to be a lot of traffic considering Saldanha is also a training school....

Would like to know what the logic for this decision is? Right on my doorstep.

(**) This make no sence at all, will affect training and social flying to Saldanha, as with previous post it is already sometimes difficult to communicate.

Well, the only reason I can think of why they would do this, is because the ATC at langebaan don't have enough to do to justify his salary, so they gave him an aerodrome as an extra.

They should rather have changed langebaan's freq to 122.7. That was where the most activity is on.

I have just spoken to Johann Froneman and he says that this whole frequency thing has been active since beginning of October and has not worked at all, just causing confusion and they have had a couple of near misses already. He is of the opinion that it will revert back to the old way by the end of the month (he hopes so anyway). So up to now if you plan to fly to Saldanha, it is best to phone ATC at Langebaanweg on 022 7062259 and request what current procedures they want you to follow. At the moment all aircraft are broadcasting on 122.5 - if still not sure give Johann a ring on 082 457 9509

I have found ATC and the chief in command at Langebaan very helpful. When I put up my hangar at Aurora I contacted them and asked if they have any problems with that (being in the FAD46 1500GND/GND and FAD45"A" 1500AGL/FL195. All they asked was if flying operations increase I contact them for a meeting. I also spoke to maj de Clerk at the time and he invited me (and others) to come and have a look at their operations.

I will contact them and try arrange something like that, and then they can also explain the current frequencies. Anyone interested?

Gert,

Was just wondering. Get a invite for all to fly to langebaanweg, then I'm sure there will be a lot more guys attending with that oppurtunity in mind. What you think?
