Crime does pay.....

Postby MILO » Wed Jun 18, 2008 2:00 pm

I had my 1993 Corolla 160i GL stolen in Durban the first week of May. I was really "Upset" , I’d had it from new & serviced done the timing belt, new water pump, new back tyres.
Phase 2 , off to the license office, much standing in queues to de register the car, big fight with the insurance who eventually paid me R16k – because all calls are recorded I told them if its recovered I want it back – Ya boet  .
Anyway 2 weeks later I received a call- the car is recovered – in good condition.
Flew down to Durbs, Mango , got some awesome service from the SAP in Isipingo, (they picked me up from the airport (-) ).
Get back to Ema pot holie & do a thorough check….
1. They didn’t like may radio so put an upgraded one in,
2. Because of the sandblasted numbers on all the windows they put new ones in (windscreen & back window included)
3. New front & rear bumper,
4. Nice polish with grinding paste,
5. Replaced the ignition, both doors & boot locks with new ones.
6. Tinted the back window (!!) ( I am not sure I like it)
7. ¾ tank of fuel.
8. Left me some pliers & a couple of spanners.
On the downside I have a bullet hole s071 in the rear passenger door (insurance will sort that out), (no blood) & they stuffed the battery up.

Yup sometimes life is good……

That is disgusting!
I want to come and ## them into the ground!
Although... there have been worse cases!
I know a guy that had a gun put in his face, he was told to get out, so he did, they drove away and then a few days later it was found with no fuel no windows, no radio and 3 bullet holes!
It makes me @#*&%$#$% angry

I know of two instances where the victims came out on top.

The first one I am not to sure of the details, but it involved someone's Volkswagen Combi (Years ago). It wasn't insured. It got stolen and some time later the people went to a casino and saw it in the parking lot. They had the key's with them so they "stole" it back. When they cleaned it at home they found a plastic bag with cash under the seat. I can't remember the amount but it was more than what the combi was worth.

The second one was a brand new Toyota Hilux 2.8 diesel (less than a week old). It was stolen right in front of the police station in Pietersburg. The insurance paid out and 18 months later he got a call from a small police station in N-Tvl saying they have his bakkie there. He rang the insurance and they asked if he wanted to buy it back. He didn't really want a bakkie that has been driven for 18 months by thieves but he said he will give them R 4000.00 without looking at it (expecting the worst, but thought it would still be good enough to use on the farm) When he got to the police station he realized that the bakkie was recovered three day's after it was stolen. For some reason it was parked at the police station and they just never tried to reach him until a new station commander was brought in and he sorted all the outstanding cases out. He took it home gave it a good clean, replaced the ignition and had a brand new bakkie fo R 4000.00.

Then on the other side of the scale...

One of my friends went on holiday to Sedgefield about 12 years ago. The night before they left for home his bakkie got stolen. They ended up flying back to Jhb. A few day's later the cops rang him and said they recovered his bakkie the very next day, it would be stored in a secured area at the station. No damage other than the wire's under the dash. They told him to fly down for the court case the next month ( all expenses paid ) and then he can drive his bakkie back. Wonderful news.
When he got there he was in for the shock of his life. He did not even recognize his bakkie. It was stripped down to a shell.
This all happened in a secured area by none other than the cops who was supposed to look after it.
