We are planning to fly to Maputo/Xai Xai in the first week of November. Any suggestions on how to go about this would be great......this is the first time we will be doing a trip like this.
Any thoughts on route and places to stay between Jhb and Xai Xai will be welcome!!
Also keen to fly to Barberton area in mid October - any info on routes from Jhb and places to stay????
Thanks

My 2c worth. What aircraft are you flying? When getting clearances from Moz, try not to mention the word "microlight". It's just a light aircraft, keeps life simpler. And if you are landing on runway 23 at Maputo, fly as far down towards the south end as possible before landing. If you land at the threshold of 23, you will find yourseld with a 3km taxi and 737's waiting for you to clear the taxiway

My wife and I have done that trip in single seat Aircreation Racer trikes.
It was a lot of fun we stayed at Zongwene- We took two days to fly there
Krugersdorp to Witbank and overnighted at Jock of the bushvelt
Next day Nelspruit-maputu Zongwene- We came back in one day same route but doing it in one day it was a killer- We took off at 4:30 AM and landed at Krugersdorp at 6 :30 PM Never again- Do it in two days
It was one of the best micro trips I have done I cant rember exactly but I think there were about 12 trikes on that trip- Lone Ranger ended up in tree we were all so worried

Hi Mappit,
Been there, done that. Have got the spares to show.
Jokes aside, why do you wanna go through all the
hassles of red tape and black tape and green tape,
if there are all the fabulous places in SA, with the
friendliest and the most accomodating people in
the world?
Wanna go to the coast?
Harrismith, Emoyeni, Margate, Port St. John's,
Wave Crest, Trennery's, Aliwal North, Bloemfontein,
Kroonstadt.
Wanna go to the desert?
Potchefstroom, Vryburg, Van Zylsrus, Askham,
Hakskeenpan, Upington, Kuruman, Delareyville,
Ventersdorp.
Wanna see game?
Middleburg, Laskenake, Ohrigstadt,
Blyde River Canyon, Zaneen, Phalaborwa,
Hoedspruit, Hazyview, Barberton, Carolina,
Witbank.
Wanna go to the Cape?
Bultfontein, Hopetown, Carnarvon, Calvinia,
Vredendal, Lamberts Bay, St. Helena Bay,
Cape Town, Swellendam, Oudtshoorn,
Graaff-Reinet, Gariep Dam, Bloemfontein,
Kroonstadt.
These are just a few routes where you will
find the most amazing scenery and microlighters
all along. Plenty of accomodation, fuel all along,
support the ones who support you. :D :D :D
Let us all share your experiences.

Thanks for all the comments!
Only reason we want to fly to Moz is because we have some family going to Xai Xai so we plan to meet them there. Good excuse to fly there. Also planning to take a couple of months next year to go touring up to Tanzania so thought we would use this a bit of logistics tester.
