O.K. maybe the post is a little harsh and I apoligse for that but I am just so fed up of seeing the rules and regs being bent and manipulated to suit various people. Its just that when I see a statment in print from CAA and then see a post from a fellow pilot which clearly contradicts what the powers that be say it just makes me wonder whats the point of having the rules in the first place. I wonder what the attitude of the insurance companys and the 3rd party insurance and the CAA would be in the event of a mishap.

Bell406,
Welcome to the "Microlighters" forum.
This is not Avcom (http://www.avcom.co.za/), If you are here to criticise then rather go there. We prefer a postive slant here thank you.
As John has mentioned the whole SPL/RPL/MPL scenario is completely up in the air. Previously legal planes suddenly became illegal due to the whims of an inspector at CAA.
Aircraft that have been registered over the last 10 years as microlights, safely flown as such, suddenly became illegal because their empty weight exceeds 260kg. The fact that you have the last 10 years ATF's suddenly mean squat.
The same aircraft, same instrumentation, same flight handling characteristics, same Z code but with a 582 engine falls easily within the 450kg limitation. You can fly the one and not the other, where's the logic in that. Exactly the same plane.
So to the student, if he flew the 582 version or the 912s version, the experience, lesson, planning, flying, everything would be identical.
The whole motivation of creating a 600KG limitation in the recreational/sport pilot license was identified and addressed with CAA by the microlighting community, not the "greater than god complex" GA/Helicopter world. We identified it, we are addressing it. Very few fixed wing microlights fall easily within the previous rediculous 450kg limitation. Until that is ratified (July 2008, I have heard) I will continue to fly my aircraft.

Negative on the visit to Hoedspruit Civil...heard a lot of activity from the field while inbound on Saturday. We stayed in the Olifants/Blyde Concervency on the outskirts of the CTR.
Must say though the Lowveld Controllers were great......
As mentioned in the post we had PERFECT weather not a breath of wind nor bump until well past Graskop and inbound for Dullstroom/Walkersons Area.

No worries, just wondered if you happend to stop by there, but such a beautiful area indeed, and I agree with the approach and atc service there, they are great, and some laughter from time to time with new atc controllers :D Great flying and thanks for sharing the pics!

Hey bell406....Nice One.....
Welcome to the forum always nice to have interest from Bell 406 Pilots....?
Well put Morph...and John...!
bell406 - You say you are a friend of Gavin.....
then you obviously know what his and Mark's (1000Hr Mirage Pilot by the way...!) plans are.
If you want to question legislative issues...take these up with CAA and or Aeroclub. I will gladly forward the personal numbers of Heads of Training to you. Your posts should be under a differnet topic....!
Gavin and I were at all times (with our 40mins reserve (10 Liters) below the 450Kg Mark.....!). Having discussed this at length..with CAA Head of training and Rainbow....if I am forced to remove the balistic to compromise safety then I would rather close my school. According to the draft legislation / my A-Grade Status and Instruction hours on Type - I more than meet the requirement for impending RPL Instructors rating.
With all this negativity in this NTCA sector
............Let's have some positive stuff ...like the post was intended.
Seem to remember this exact post from a "PETER" (registered as z1z1z1z1 also no profile) in AVCOM in January.....although you mention your name.....you do not give any info on yourself in your profile
....makes me question your motive - ALAN...or....PETER
Off to Train a student and love my work.....I'll make sure we are only airbourne 15mins after sunrise....!

Hey Bell 406 .......Great entrance.

I believe in safety 1st at all times but think that you should rather than critisise ....... motivate on this site. We are active on this forum because we love flying and build each other up rather than break each other down. Avcom has a reputation for bitchy behaviour and we dont want that attitude creaping in here. Your question could maybe have been posed less agressively dont you think? Other than that ......

Hi Coyote...
100% with you on the safety first. As a Dad....as is Gavin and most of my students, we definately want to enjoy the priviledge of flying.
Methinks there is a personal agenda here....watch this space
