Plse remember I'm still a student (15HRS) and had to look at my aerie, Aerotrike Safari, in the hangar for the last 3 weeks!!

At last I can fly my own aerie! (^^)

Rotax 503 - 391HRS - No Inspection nor cam replacement!

According to Daniel at CAA - the AIC will be posted this afternoon.

Congrats, spoke to Amith at Av engines today and he gave me the good news about the revised maintenance schedule for two strokes. 503 = 750hr's and 582 = 600hr's. Thereafter every 300hr's. Also a 60% wearlimit tolerance on the crank. (^^)

Interesting: Got a call from very nice and helpful Braam Hechter at CAA to inform me that my ATF is sort of 'on hold'.
The guy who inspected my Basic is a registered AME, he's also got a CPL and a Test pilot rating and he builds well-known
3-axis microlights in his factory--BUT, he's not qualified to AP my Basic! :o
Aag, but Braam advised that the previous (qualified) AP, who was'nt available at the time, will be available now to do
the necessary. So, no problem, but interesting nevertheless? vhpy

Apologies...apologies...!!!! It just came to my attention that, although quite competent, the guy is NOT a registered AME.
So CAA's action was quite correct. :oops:

Did you send your papers through again??

Fly your plane, and if a "speedcop" stop you and ask for your paper, then you show him your proof of payment of when ever in feb. That should shut them up.

Hi Skidmark,

You obviously kept copies and posted the originals with cheques??

Phone Colette van Zyl (Van Zyl's Aviation Services) - get fee structure - send her copies of the copies with new cheques - use Speedpost - cancel original cheques.

By Friday 9 May 2008 you will have your ATF. !!!!

Her fee structure is R 100 + R 50 for return Speedpost = reasonable enough. :wink:

I have used Collette many times.I discovered that you can fax your stuff off directly to the CAA and their response is fast. My authority to fly expired on the 13th March. I did an eft payment. Had my plane checked by an AP. Did all the correct documentation certified everything and faxed the stuff off to CAA. The very next morning I got a phone call from Mike Cathro. He explained to me that I would not get my authority as my 503 Rotax had exceeded the 300 hour Rotax service reconmendation. Which had not been done by the previous owner. He said I need to be patient and don't waste money put the plane in the hangar and wait as the hours were going to change. Things have changed has come now 750 hours for the 503. I have no issues with Mike. He is doing what he has to do and I appreciate every effort that the guys in the frontline have done to push this through. Bottomline I still don't have my authority to fly. We have had a spot check at our airfield by the CAA. You know me I don't like to take chances so I wait! wait! and wait! Yes I will send it off again. Though I did fax a letter to Mike couple of weeks ago which he responded to again within a day or two. He said then that it was a done deal one more signature was required by the top guy and they would start proccessing the backlog of authority's to fly. Well that pile must be HUGE!!!!!!!
