Hi Guys,
Just a matter of interest, on Sunday the 10th Feb.we've
returned from our Gyro Tour, flying abeam the Babsfontein
tower towards Springs, as we crossed the Babsfontein -
Delmas road I saw a Clay Pigeon Club active, with a whole
bunch of people shooting these clay pigeons.we were flying
lowlevel and luckily nobody was injured, so watch out and
avoid this area.

Regards
Willie

Mate of mine had a hole in his propellor after an anti-poaching session. Bullet holes in trike is nothing new. Belief you me, you will KNOW a bullet hole when you see one
Mmmmmm. Maybe time to take your piece with....... Word of caution. Semi auto handguns throw the empties out. It will be embarrassing to take your own prop off with an empty bullet casing   Revolvers work better. 357 or 44 Magnum....... Go ahead.....make my day?

It would'nt surprise me if he was shot at in the area. Recently quad bikers have been shot at as well. The farmers have also been burying spikes in the trails. One of the guys who ride with us lives in the area and refuses to ride there. Be careful guys.

Yip Boet, will be flying with my .45 from now on, but will take your advise. I dont want my empty "trash-cans" to go through my own prop, and in so doing, taking myself out

Mmmm, was exactly my theory when I saw the hole.

Watch out Bergville

Postby ZULU1 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:50 pm

I had three in CEW which are neatly patched up and sitting in a hangar somewhere in Brits. Flying over Bergville a few years back, the only thing is I noticed it on the next pre flight. The one that made me go cold was the pannier. I have never flown over townships since and always high enough to avoid this.
BUT far worst damage was caused when a coconut landed on the sail parked off the beach in Mozanbique.

As Precaution , you all heard the story "what have you done to make sure it doesnt happen again " We at Microland have changed the route for demo/ intro flights , top secret , sorry cant tell you where , but as we say we fly cause we want to , not because we have to

This is something that has been a concern for me for quite a while now. Trikes are being used on anti poaching exercises. When livestock are stolen, farmers either hop into their own trikes, or ask for assistance from friends with trikes, in order to try and find the stolen stock. The same thing happens in regard to stolen cars and bakkies. Then it is "oop en toe" overhead informal settlements to try and find whatever was stolen.

Make no mistake , I do have a lot of sympathy for the guys who are victims of theft etc, and I share in their anger and frustration.I am just wondering whether it is wise to use microlights on these recce flights, as the baddies link them to law enforcement actions. The next logical thing for them is to view all microlights as potential threats, which may result in them taking random potshots at microlights going by. :x

But on the other hand they may shoot at us for fun as well!!

On more than one occasion I have seen poachers scatter in all directions as I come around a point low level on the South/East coast near Hangklip/Hermanus. Although tempted to give them a real scare I know these guys are heavily armed and give them a wide berth.

I like to think pleasant thoughts... like a .50 calibre taking out the sniper and his whole friggin block and all his friggin decendants!
