Trike Crazy's wife's holiday tale.

Postby Henk » Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:36 pm

This is a story for all the flying widows. It starts off with me being a widow aswell when my husband, Straydog, left with Thatchman and Gaylord F. on their trip to EL. I stayed home to look after the dogs. Thanks to Thatchman, I could follow their trip on the Forum.

They were just back when the Springs guys convinced Henk to fly out to Loskopdam. This time I was so lucky to be able to join him :D
We took off late Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the most amazing sunset over the dam.
Thanks to the GT450 that is sooo Quick, we landed before it was too dark.
That evening I was the only woman amongst 8 flying crazy men. No guess to what the topic of conversation was. So please wives join me next time so that we can talk "children and recipies". The most important thing about the weekend was the flying and the scenary. LOVELY!!!

Our next trip was to Cradock and after that we decided we will go wherever the wind blows. First stop Anton Marx's farm (Bloem). Also Trike crazy. Henk gave Anton and his wife a long awaited flip. Believe it or not people out there are genarally very hospitable and we accepted their invitation to stay over for the night.
On our way to Cradock, we made a cigarette stop at Springfontein. While there we decided we might aswell fill her up. That was fun.
Before we joined the Mighty Fish River to Cradock I had to make a "pit stop" Henk had lunch.

After a VERY nice flight we arrived in Cradock where we spent a few days. Henk took his mom and the local head of traffic department, Kobus for flips. We also saw lots of game.
Andreas and Charmain, both keen aviators, from Tedderfield invited us to their holiday "huisie by die see' (Port Elizabeth).
Again we followed the Great Fish River to the mouth. Awesome sight.
Well everyone who flew along a coastline would know what an amazing flight that is. For those who never experienced it, maak 'n plan.
We saw thousands of dolphins. Again an amazing sight.

Henk took Andreas and Charmain for scenic flights. The highlight of their holiday. Although we enjoyed our stay, our time was running out. On our way out beach landing Sunday's River mouth. How nice was that too.
We planned to join Larry and Sharon in Grahamstown, and with them, fly the Wild Coast to Margate. Unfortunately the Weatherman said no to that and we got stuck in Grahamstown. Again both of them keen aviators, so most of the conversations were about...... And yes I enjoy talking flying but not all the technical stuff.
After a few days we left to return straight home. JHB- Panorama. Again - beautiful, picturesque, green!

Just before Tempe we had to make a very quick landing, tie down, and wait out a thunderstorm. Exiting :)
I think even the horses thought that Henk's trike is worth looking at.
In Tempe Brian (triker) helped with hangarage and accommodation.

The next morning we landed safely at Panorama. Thanks to all the people mentioned, you made this a wonderful flying holiday. You are great!
:D But most of all thanks to my loving husband who likes taking me along. I loved it.
So come on girls, join your partners. You are missing out :!:

Beautiful picks..........

Judging by some of the photo's there must have been some 'surprised' locals when filling up...... We had a similar trip to Naboomspruit on 2nd January and landed 10 trikes along the public road and pulled into the local garage to fill up. The garage owner was quite shocked when he walked out the door to find all these strange looking 'vehicles' wanting to fill up

Yeah for those of you who don't know Henk has been baptised by the Rietfontein boys as Straydog. The crowd (Demon, Gaylord Fokker and Thatchman) were running for home and called Lanseria for clearance for 3 trikes. The tower looked and noticed a fourth tagging a little way behind and asked Demon "and what about your straydog" They were unaware he was following behind.

Mrs Henk, why don't you register here and get your own login and continue to post. It's nice to hear from you and you obviously enjoy flying and of course ladies are always most welcome.

nice story and great pics  8)

PS I think the horses were looking at a mirage, and they could feintly see one hundred horses standing there

Beautiful pictures and story indeed.

I'd just like to know, seeing the pack of smokes perched on the dash whilst flying, can you actually light up in flight with the GT450?
