New Rattex enjaain rumor

Postby Boet » Thu Sep 06, 2007 8:30 pm

Maybe I heard wrong. I heard that someone imported a Rotax" 583" engine. Same, more or less as the 582, but more power. Anyone??

I thought that was a snowmobile engine? Produces 93 hp.

Hi Boet... the 583 is a standard stock engine that has +- 200 flying in the States (mostly on Kitfoxes and other ultralights- also blimps). It also comes with some fancy exhaust that enables it to produce around 97Hp. I shall search for the article this afternoon and mail it to you.
I was rather surprised that nobody/few boere had knowledge of this engine.

Cheers

This is what I have found so far

single ignition, dual carb
92hp @ 8,500rpm (going to need some serious 4 to 1 type reduction box)

they are getting their power at a moerse high rpm, I wonder what the reliability is like?

Rotax 583

Hi Boet!

Someone up here in Polokwane is importing one (maybe someone else is aswell?). Spoke to him this morning. If he approves, I will mention his name.

It hasn't arrived yet, but it is coming from the States.

Yes, it is used in snowmobiles. Apparently very reliable. It has all sorts of fancy features the 582 dreams of like variable timing.

Apparently (according to a guy in the States who sells these for aircraft use) the 582 used to be used in snowmobiles but was to unreliable. That's why they use the 583.

The snowmobiles take a lot of hammering, engine wise.

You can get the 583 with dual ignition, but then the TBO drops from 600h to 300h.

Let's wait and see...
