If it was this bad, a chute would be completely unpredictable. How would you control direction. you could end up being carried away, smashed against some cliff face somewhere. who knows. I would only use the chute if there was absolutely no control left in the plane, i.e. wings broken etc.

Otherwise do as Henk did, fly away from the rotors/turbulance and find another safer place to land into the wind.Find the best spot where you can land into the wind.

I’ve had a similar experience in a light aircraft, but still scary. I’m with Morph, fly away and land somewhere else or as I did just far away until the storm passed. Flying at 120 knots did mean that I could make Pilansberg and back (far enough I think :wink:) but still GET AWAY from the danger.
