Hi RV,

I have been looking at these for awhile – am interested in the 4 stroke. Saw 4 being built this month for delivery in Gauteng.

Maybe someday ….

R275K for the 912 (not 912s) Aquilla & similar cost for the Cobra. P&M does not seem that expensive now

Ditto on 4 stroke. (Can never have too much power    As they say sufficient overkill...)

In principal, I'm not against an instructor making a commission at all.

If good instructors can't make enough, we'll be stuck with bad one's. I just think that if they're tying you up with a sale, it should be said that they're recieving a com.

If all manufacturers offer a kickback to all flying schools then the student ( who does'nt know any better) won't feel he's been sucked into one type because of alterier motives.

I suppose it comes down to integrity.

A few years ago I was instructing on trikes and a student who was almost finished his licence asked me if I would let him try my Blade before he bought a trike- We went for a jolly and he raved about it to the other students-

Next thing I was called into the CFI s office and kaked out from a dizzy height- I was told in no uncertain terms not to recomend any trike other than the brand he was getting com on- I think this was very wrong.

As my wife and I finished off our MPLs at Panarama -Bill Anderson (Buzzard) went to a lot of trouble to organise me flights in a range of planes before we bought anything- The Racer was perfect for Vulture

To me thats the way it should be done

(^^) Agree 100%. This is the kind of instructor who should be out there. If that was the case, we would have a lot more people loving the skies and loving their trikes.

Invariable, the guy/ girl badly matched with his trike, gives up the sport, and doesn't bring any new blood in either.

When I grow up, I also want a Racer. Best little single seater trike I have ever flown. Unfortunatly, every trike I buy now has to have 2 seats, for work you know...

Yea, but I gotta go to Upington to check it out and train. Time constraints.

Next thing I was called into the CFI s office and kaked out from a dizzy height- I was told in no uncertain terms not to recomend any trike other than the brand he was getting com on
Thats what I was getting at. Some schools are open to selling ,or pushing one brand.

I think so, and 5 GT450's have now been ordered, and I am sure that many more guys who have tried it would order it were it not for the price.
As RV4ker says, the 912S is 50% of the price, plus the full house of
standard options and extras (hydraulic disc brakes, flydat, electric trim, full instruments etc) are all included in the price i mentioned.
Compare the price a brand new Cobra 912S with all the options for example
Now we're getting somewhere. It appears if you're looking at 912, go straight to top of the range. With a bit of luck, they can squeeze a whole container full and split the transport cost.

If a trike /wing is kak from a safety perspective or other then so be it. The local or importer of crap will then jack up their socks due to competition if it were made public. Besides the idea of test flying all the trikes that you consider is practically impossible. It took me almost 4 weeks to testfly ONE!

What I find does help is seeing an instructor even few months to catch up on "gossip". VERY few instructors are unbiast.

As far as commission works hows this - I went to a certain airfield interested in Trike X, but halfway through the instructor starts selling me the trike next to it and the one next to that, the diff being all the others were Trike Y and guess what?? Yip he receives MORE comm on Trike Y. Ironically all the pro's he mentioned of trike Y were already on X .

Head 2 Head stuff rocks, the UK sites (durham, bmaa) have a few reviews and BYDANJONSON.com also helps. Often you find the roll rate etc. MOST imported trikes have faily comprehensive manuals (I've read like 8  )

Here's a suggestion

When comparing wings we look at climb, sink rates etc. Is there not an index or unit for measuring turbulence handling? 1 Man power in X winds etc.? or other issues people want to know more about?
