It's the time of the year when medical covers can be changed and reviewed. Just checked on the Discovery site about covering injuries sustained while operating an aircraft:
https://www.discovery.co.za/memberf.jht ... tle=Pilots
(For those who don't have a Discovery logon:
Pilots: A pilot is a person who flies aircraft (e.g. helicopter, aeroplane).
What:
We'll pay for claims for healthcare services related to injuries sustained while flying an aircraft according to Discovery Health rules and policies.
Please note:
To be covered, you must have an appropriately recognised qualification for operating your aircraft.
If your injury is work-related (i.e. sustained on duty), you must submit your claim to COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases) and notify us.
When and Why?
We'll pay for healthcare services related to injuries sustained while flying an aircraft from:
* the Hospital Benefit if the patient is admitted to hospital and we have authorised it
or
* from your day-to-day benefits for non-hospital procedures and consultations, as long as you have funds available.
)
So this means as long as I am licensed, have a valid medical, operate an aircraft for which I have ratings and that the aircraft has a valid authority to fly, should the unexpected and unaviodable happen, Discovery will foot the bills (subject to the cover). No need to make changes, endorsements on my policy.
Would you guys agree that I understand this right?
Cheers,
V.
