I have a brilliant DVD called "Flying to the moon" taken by a guy from the Western Cape of a trip from CT to northern Namibia to meet up with Mike Blythe and Olivier. Yes, you were right, looks like a great option ! Thanks, I would love to see the DVD, sounds like just the kind of flying I am interested in. I am not sure when I will be down in Cape Town again, the boss did say that I have to go and show face at a client down there soon to meet them so I am sure it will happen sooner rather than later. Will let you know once I have more definite plans. Still trying to find my feet in a new job, I have only been at it for a month and it is a bit of a career change for me.

Thanks Dad. Junkie, if we start making ou frames out of 4130 cr/moly tubing, the price will hit the ceiling. The target with the BB / Explorer is to use as much, locally produced materials as possible. This keeps the price in check and make our product much more affordable. We have had to endure a lot of flak in the past for this very reason. The BB/Exp frames is made of plain SAE1010 COLD rolled steel tubing. The same stuff used to make Cubs, Tri-Pacers and the likes.Time-tested and proven. Need I say more?

Well perhaps late for a reply under the original topic of "what to buy".
But I think the most elligible aircraft of all has been missed...
The Jora....
Laminar flow, one person quick fold wings (cheap/easy hangerage), cruise from 40 to 120 mph with a 582 (no kidding), Jabiru and Rotax 912 are optional but overkill. At 85 mph cruise the 582 is just a notch above idle at 5-7liters/hour fuel burn thanks to low drag laminar wings (60 liter tank). Huge cockpit with excellent visibility, fly doors off in summer (with max speed restriction). Good glide, side slip like a beaver (the big one) with best cosswind performance in its class. 20knots crosswind component (for real, not just a number). Fly when the Cessna's fly and fly circles around a 150 and keep up easy with a 172. Real STOL performance thrown in the bargain and she is a looker with BIG load carrying ability and large luggage space. And fly with a MPL without pushing your luck (245Kg empty weight). Rough fields ? Very strong undercarriage - I know I tested it
combined with slow landing speeds - no problem at all. This thing I fly where I flew my trike, no hassle. Flies like nothing else - get a test flight in one before you buy anything or else you will not believe it.
Boys, it ain't getting better than this one....
Only trouble is they are not plentifull and you need a lot of patience after you ordered one, that is the only downside.
Around 250K turn key, fly away. Lowest cost composite aircraft around.

r4ker, Calling it a "Mohawk" Bushbaby, is a slight misnomer. It is just a "MOHAWK", and has bugger-all to do with the Bushbaby. The only connection to the BB is probably the fact that I built it. The Mohawk is a plans-built copy of the Avid Flyer. This aerie is a very good buy for the price, and very easy to fly. A little under the Hosses for hot & high, but at the coast, a teriffic toy!! Recomended. :D
