The bittersweet of changing airfields

Postby Big-D » Mon Sep 04, 2006 5:07 pm

So there I was Saturday 06h30 in the seat of my old trusty Aerotrike when I made my Radio call “Petit traffic, this is AZU. Anyone for a radio check?”…….Andy Kasparson my ex-instructor, flying-mentor and friend anwers “Got you 5 – Is jy gereed vir jou trip seuntjie?” To which I answer “My hart breek Andy….”And then I knew how Judas must have felt – Yip, I knew what it felt like to be a betrayer. This was to be the last time I would ask for a radio check at Petit as a club member. AZU was about to change base from Petit to Aviators Paradise (Close to Harties)

2 Weeks ago I went flying at Aviators Paradise with Dark Helmet and could not believe the beauty of this place. I live in North Riding so Aviators Paradise is much closer for me and thanks to DH I was offered hangerage at this beautiful airfield.

Back to Saturday - The next thing I knew I was flying the Pinidene Corridor with the GPS leading AZU to her new home in the North West.

I made good friends at Petit whom I will miss, but as Miskiet says “Ons propwash sal weer kruis”. Indeed it will.

So, goodbye Petit and Bronkies, hallo Aviators Paradise and Harties.

Darkhelmet, The North-West awaits our explorations

Yours in flying

But Big D, remember, you have only moved to the other-side of the big smoke, and I'm sure you'll be back at Petit for brekkies - maybe not as a club member, but as a visitor.

I am sure we will see you around. Nevertheless, enjoy your new nest!
