Garmin aviation GPS VS Hiking gps VS gps Android app

For flying aviation gps will always be the best, but they expensive.

What alternatives do I have? and can someone recommend an android app that can be used offline without network or internet connection.

I have head most guys are using hiking gps with barometric altimeter. like the garmin 78 / 6x / vista
and some guys use the basic Etrex model for just lat/long coordinates.

I have use my android phone with gps coordinates app "My gps coordinates" - which can be used without internet or network and it works fine.
I have also used my android phone with hiking apps and pre-loaded maps "polaris navigation" which can be used without internet or network and it works fine also.

I have tried some of the more expensive apps in demo/trial mode, they dont cost too much, +- R300-R500 but they do have an annual fee. - but I cant see the point of paying for something
when the free apps Ive used work quite well. and if its just coordinates you need my gps app works very well

I am in a bit of a dilemma on what to do? or if I should do anything at all.

I have an option to buy an old garmin pilot monochrome screen and a almost new garmin 78s with full maps on sd card. - any opinions on this?

Any advice

Thanks

Air Nav Pro I use on an iPad and some friends use on Android. Initial cost but so far I have seen no annual license fee. Most of us are very happy with it. I like the fact that I can add airfields to it myself.

Ola s079

I use the GPS Pilot 3 gps as my primary and have an iPad mini with Air Navigation Pro which I use for maps as well as to listen to mp3's, check wx as I fly ##

Air Navigation Pro also has a flight recorder which saves your tracks as well as an electronic logbook which saves your flight times, number of landings etc s040
