ON 2014-05-18 theo and bennie took off at kittyhawk at 07:00 heading for the kalahari "koppieskraal pan. Flip and ct joined us from lichtenburg airfield.
Theo flying a challenger 2 long wing and bennie a cheeta 912. After an hour and 50 min theo and bennie landed at lichtenburg. Bennie"s father oom ben joined
bennie in the cheeta and we headed for a 3 hour and 15 min leg to vanzyls rus. After landing at vanzylsrus , flip and ct also appeared from kuruman . At 15:00 we
took off and the last leg to koppieskraal pan was infront of us . We landed at koppieskraal pan at 17:00 that afternoon. What an experience........
The ground crews, "marius, debbie , chrisna and frank" was already at the pan. The flight from kittyhawk took us 6 hours 35 min. Not to bad for a challenger.
We camped on the pan and boy did we fly.. Did almost 3000 km for the 6 days.Tyron and Byron joined us also from the wednesday. They flew from springs airfield.
Well done to all the pilots and a big thanks to our ground crews. The most interesting day was monday when the kalahari showed another side. Thunder storm came through
and the rain did not stop till tuesday in the early morning. That was of course a strange experience. But i can personally say the scenery in the kalahari is breath taking.
If you never flew around in the kalahari you are missing out big time...... As i call it " KOS VIR DIE SIEL ".
