cost of flexwing in SA

Postby arrow » Mon Jul 17, 2006 4:23 pm

Guys
I am relocating to South Africa (near Kruger Park fantastic area for flying) and was looking for some info on the cost of microlights in SA. From what I have seen in the Forum as with cars you guys seem to be being ripped off with the price of microlights new or used.
Is this the case (as its hard to find the same models as those in the UK)?
Has anyone imported there own (any headaches?)
Should I bring mine with? or buy local?

Thanks

Hi and Im sure you will love it up there

Might still be cheaper to buy here with the pound rand conversion after transporting etc but I think it would depend on whether you want Trike or 3 Axis and what make you already have :?:

If you can get in in the container with the rest of your furniture then bring it with. It will save you on the shipping costs.

You can expect to pay R100k plus for a good condition 582. 503's are about R75000 for a really nice 2nd hand one

Aussie prices for new Rotax engines:

503 - R36 000
582 - R45 000
912 UL2 - R85 000

Sheeet - might just upgrade to 4 stroke myself!

I would re check the exchange rate and also add in the cost of the gearbox etc. and you will come out way above R100,000 for the 912
