Banglatheft
So here is a nice South Africa story for you. Yesterday, whilst sitting upstairs, reading with a dog on my lap, some creature entered the bedroom downstairs and eloped with my iPhone, wallet and some clothes. Ginja at one stage seemed a bit exited, but I thought nothing of it. I put it down to my own naiveté, thinking no-one would be so bold, and that the dogs will hear an intruder. We went out, and I kept on looking at "Find my Friend" on Aneen's phone. At 20h00 I picked up that my phone was in the up and coming suburb of Lentegeur, no. 60 Viola Road. Drove quickly to Sea Point Police (not interested without doing the paperwork), phoned Mitchell's Plain Police who referred me to Lentegeur Police who wanted me to come to Lentegeur (without armed escort, nogal). Not really interested. So I phoned our local City Improvement Disctrict CEO, who pulled a couple of strings, did some more info gathering with iCloud, Cape Towns' zoning application, Google Streetview, and deedsweb to get a picture of house etc before me, and 8 armed police retrieving my phone at 02h00 from a Bangladeshi tuck-shop owner, who alleges that the phone was pawned for two pies and R400, to be redeemed the next morning. Could not quite explain why he removed the SIM card of a phone he expected to return to it's "owner" the next day. So me, Mr Bangladesh and the very able Sgt Sarels took "our" prisoner to Cape Town Central. On the way, his colleague, who was left in the safe care of some mean looking Lentegeur Police, started to talk, and we were told further arrests are going to made. So Mr Bangladesh is behind bars, my cell is in safe custody, and we hope the rest will return my wallet (cards stopped but a stolen drivers license is such as hassle) and my bright orange BMW rain suit (how Mr Buglar thinks he will remain inconspicuous in his cesspool wearing my orange suit, I don't know). Back in bed at 03h00, and up at 5h45 for a full day. B@sterds.

Re: Banglabastards

Dit is n mooi storie met n goeie einde.
Gelukkig het jy kennis van hierdie gadgets wat ons I Phones, cellphones en rekenaars noem.
Well done.

Ek praat jou thaal...

Re: Banglabastards
Since then, on Friday, I got my cellphone back from the police. On it there were two pictures - not mine, very dark. I loaded them onto my Mac, and the coordinates on this pointed to a house about 40m away from the Banglabastards tuckshop. It also happens to be the spot where findmyfriend first told me the phone is. I then ajusted brightness etc with Photoshop, which showed a chair, bed, and a arched window or doorway, partially covered. I contacted Sgt Sarels, who visited me on Friday evening, and told me they did a door to door on Thursday, and arrested someone for another crime at this address, and low and behold, the photo is indeed of the interior of that house.
Sgt Sarels just happened to be a good cop, who were interested, and not the case officer. So now I need to get the case officer, Const Nyikila interested in putting pressure on the Bangladeshi to finger the true culprit.

Re: Banglatheft
Way to go Gert!!!! You were lucky to get an intersted cop, the average would have shrugged it off because they dont understand technology, or the principal of retrieving stolen goods and jailing the bastards!
Well done!

Rusty
